“Brown Face In Vanilla Line-up”: Ross Taylor Opens Up On Facing Racism | Cricket News
New Zealand icon Ross Taylor , who retired from international cricket earlier this year, released his autobiography on Thursday. In the book, titled "Black & White", Taylor opened up about instances of racism that he faced through his playing career. He spoke about how it would crop up in dressing room banter and in comments from some staff members and officials. He noted that he knew the comments didn't come from a "racist perspective", but rather due to "insensitivity" and lack of empathy. Taylor, who is part Samoan, said he had been "an anomaly" for large parts of his career. "Cricket in New Zealand is a pretty white sport. For much of my career I've been an anomaly, a brown face in a vanilla line-up," Stuff.co.nz quoted him as writing in his book. "That has its challenges, many of which aren't readily apparent to your teammates or the cricketing public," Taylor wrote. "In many ways, dressing-room banter is the barometer. A teammate used to tell me, 'You're half … [Read more...] about “Brown Face In Vanilla Line-up”: Ross Taylor Opens Up On Facing Racism | Cricket News

“6 Months Ago, Don’t Think It Would Even…”: Scott Styris On Hardik Pandya As Captain | Cricket News
Ever-since Hardik Pandya 's stint as a captain in the Ireland series and also in the fifth and final T20I against West Indies brought victory to Team India, fans and experts from all over the world have been suggesting that the all-rounder should be considered as a full-time skipper. And now former New Zealand Scott Styris did not shy away from sharing views regarding the star all-rounder and said that he won't be surprised if Hardik gets the command of the Indian T20 side. "I think it's an intriguing discussion because again, six months ago, I don't think it's something we all thought would even be talked about, but Hardik Pandya has made every poster winner, as Saba says. And you know, you see it a lot in football, where players of character and personality are often given the armband to be captain to also allow them to show some responsibility," said Styris on SPORTS18's daily sports news show 'SPORTS OVER THE TOP'. "So, I don't mind this for Hardik Pandya to be given … [Read more...] about “6 Months Ago, Don’t Think It Would Even…”: Scott Styris On Hardik Pandya As Captain | Cricket News

Can’t Beg People To Play For West Indies, Says Dejected Head Coach Phil Simmons | Cricket News
"I don't think that I should be begging people to play for the West Indies," said the team's dejected chief coach Phil Simmons . The former opener expressed his disappointment even as the board struggles to zero in on their best squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, with most cricketers either playing franchise league elsewhere or out injured. "It hurts. There's no other way to put it. But what can you do? I don't think that I should be begging people to play for their countries. I think if you want to represent West Indies, you will make yourself available," Simmons was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. "Life has changed, in that people have the opportunities to go different places and if they choose that over West Indies, that's just how it is," he added. The list of absentees is long. Andre Russell hasn't made himself available for selection as the star all-rounder -- along with Sunil Narine -- is currently playing the Hundred. Nashville chaos on brand for IndyCar Music City GP, Year 2 – NBC Sports
NASHVILLE, Tennessee – Same song, different verse for the Music City Grand Prix and the NTT IndyCar Series? Well, maybe on the track — but the notes also weren’t exactly the same for the second trip to Nashvegas. The bright lights and bachelorette parties of Broadway still welcomed IndyCar with open hearts and full Solo cups – but amid signs that the race lost some of its inaugural energy and sheen. Though there was a massive new NetJets-branded Club RPM luxury suite in Turn 3 and sharp blue grandstands perched over the entrance to Turn 9, the weekend slate of nightly concerts was reduced. It was difficult to discern the crowd size (and race organizers provided no figures but indicated attendance on par with the 110,000 estimated last year, including 60,000 on race day), but 90-minute lightning delays on Saturday and Sunday made the grounds seem sparser. And though the grandstands filled in well and seemed packed when the race finally began after 4 p.m. CT, local ratings … [Read more...] about Nashville chaos on brand for IndyCar Music City GP, Year 2 – NBC Sports
“33-Year-Old Seamer Looking To Maximise Earning Potential…”: Australia Pace Icon On Trent Boult | Cricket News
Trent Boult 's decision to pull out of a national contract with New Zealand Cricket to spend more time with family has intensified the debate on players preferring to play franchise cricket over international cricket. Iconic Australian pacer Jason Gillespie , however, backed Boult's decision, however, while also saying that the "cricketing landscape" has been changing. "Whether we like/agree or not, the cricketing landscape has been changing for a while now," Gillespie tweeted in response to the news on Boult being released from his contract. Five potential college football chaos teams ready to wreak havoc on playoff race in 2022 season
CBS Sports Graphic It doesn't take a genius to figure out which teams will most likely reach the College Football Playoff before the season begins. I know because while I'm an idiot, I've done a good job of predicting the fields since the playoff was created in 2014. What's more challenging, however, is figuring out which teams could introduce a little chaos into the equation. Yes, there are roughly 10 programs capable of reaching the playoff, but there are only four spots and this is still college football . No matter how predictable the sport is, something unexpected happens every Saturday during the season with Goliaths falling to Davids along the line. So which teams are likely to play the role of David in 2022? I've dug into the schedules of all the title-contending programs looking for candidates to emerge, and I found five poised to strike. Now, to be clear, to qualify as a "Chaos Team" in this exercise, you cannot be a contender for a playoff spot yourself. These … [Read more...] about Five potential college football chaos teams ready to wreak havoc on playoff race in 2022 season
Tamim targets 350+ scores, says time nigh for ODI batting revolution
BATTING APPROACH REBOOT by Atif Azam • Published on Share Tweet I am sure in the coming days you will see us trying to reach what others are reaching: Tamim © AFP Tamim Iqbal said on Wednesday (August 10) that Bangladesh would need to change their batting approach and focus on making 350 runs regularly in order do well in the format. Tamim's side managed to score 303 runs and 290 in the opening two games but still it was not enough as Zimbabweans won both the games to clinch the series. The visitors made only 259 in the final game but avoided a clean-sweep by bowling out Zimbabwe for 151 in 32.2 overs. Incidentally, in 400 games in the format Bangladesh's highest total remains the 333 for 8 they scored against Australia at Trent Bride in 2019 even as many other teams have regularly breached the 350-run mark. The Bangladesh captain opined that this transformation was imperative if they are to be a force in next year's … [Read more...] about Tamim targets 350+ scores, says time nigh for ODI batting revolution
