Jos Buttler hails Ben Stokes as England Test captain bids farewell to ODI cricket
Stokes announced on Monday that Tuesday's clash against South Africa, which ended in a 62-run defeat for England, would be his last in 50-over internationals as he looks to prolong his career in other formats. The England Test captain was unable to leave his mark on his final outing, finishing with 0-44 in his five overs with the ball and scoring just five with the bat. Yet Stokes still finishes as one of just three players to score 2,500 or more runs and take 50-plus wickets in men's ODIs for England (2,924 runs, 74 wickets), alongside Paul Collingwood and Andrew Flintoff. Those numbers are impressive but his World Cup-winning unbeaten 84 in the 50-over final against New Zealand before scoring eight in the Super Over will remain his crowning moment in the format. Buttler, who batted alongside Stokes in that Super Over, was quick to recall his World Cup heroics as the white-ball captain thanked his team-mate for his relentless efforts on a consistent basis. "From myself … [Read more...] about Jos Buttler hails Ben Stokes as England Test captain bids farewell to ODI cricket
The Hundred Cricket News: Ollie Pope Replaces Jonny Bairstow at Welsh Fire
Middle-order batsman Ollie Pope on Friday replaced wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow at the Welsh Fire as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) reallocated the country’s centrally contracted Test players following the postponement of the inaugural edition of The Hundred. The ECB announced the names of the first 18 players set to to take part in the tournament after its start was postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Opener Rory Burns was the other player who switched teams, moving to Oval Invincibles from London Spirit. Pope, who received his first red-ball central contract recently, was signed by Southern Brave in last year’s draft. However, the Southampton-based team opted to retain pacer Jofra Archer, letting go of the 22-year-old. “I’m incredibly excited to be joining Welsh Fire. The side had a really strong squad lined up and I’m sure they’ll be working hard to retain some of the star names and further strengthen the side in the upcoming draft,” Pope said. “We … [Read more...] about The Hundred Cricket News: Ollie Pope Replaces Jonny Bairstow at Welsh Fire

2022 has been a challenging year for Team India as the side have had 6-7 captains due to injuries and workload management. The likes of Rishabh Pant , Hardik Pandya and Shikhar Dhawan have led India in the white-ball formats. Dhawan will be leading the side once again in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, beginning August 18. Regular captain Rohit Sharma spoke about how it is fantastic that the side now has so many leaders within the group. “I think it's very important to have that leadership, but obviously, you know we play the IPL and it's a 10- team tournament. So there will be 10 captains which at some stage will be a part of the Indian team as well," Rohit said on Star Sports' show "Follow The Blues". "You know, I think it's fantastic because honestly my job is much lesser as these guys understand everything pretty well. So, it's just about if someone's having a thought, how am I going to backup that thought. For me as captain that is my role and … [Read more...] about “Fantastic Because…”: Rohit Sharma On India Having 6-7 Captains In 2022 | Cricket News
“Felt There Needs To Be…”: Rohit Sharma On Message Given To Team After Last T20 WC | Cricket News
The T20 World Cup last year did not prove to be a fruitful tournament for Team India as the then Virat Kohli -led side failed to progress to the semi-finals, after suffering losses against Pakistan and New Zealand in the Super 12s stage. Current skipper Rohit Sharma has opened up on what happened after the side failed to progress ahead in the tournament and what sort of equation he shares with now head coach Rahul Dravid . "We have made it very clear after the T20 World Cup in Dubai, when we did not qualify and we felt there needs to be a change in our attitude, our approach, and how we play the game so we had the clear message given to the boys. They were ready to accept that challenge. Not too many chop and change in the squad. With Rahul Bhai, I have played some games with him, he was my first captain when I made my ODI debut so obviously, we have some sort of understanding," said Rohit on Star Sports' show 'Follow The Blues'. CWG: Australia beat India by 9 runs to win maiden gold medal in women’s cricket | Commonwealth Games News
Birmingham: The Indian women's cricket team once again succumbed to the big stage fright to suffer a nine-run defeat against the mighty Australia in the gold medal match of the Commonwealth Games here on Sunday. The 'Women In Blue' lost the battle of nerves and also the last five wickets for 13 runs with some poor strategic moves and even more atrocious shot selections leaving a lot to be desired. Losing like winning is also a habit and in the end, the self belief of the Southern Stars prevailed with the opposition taking a lot of pressure on themselves. Beth Mooney (61 off 41) made a stroke-filled half century as Australia managed to reach 161 for eight despite a spirited fielding effort from India. With 50 needed off the last six overs with eight wickets in hand, and Harmanpreet (65 off 43) in the middle of a special innings, it should have been a straightforward chase for India. However, India found a way to fluff it as they lost eight wickets for 32 runs to come short … [Read more...] about CWG: Australia beat India by 9 runs to win maiden gold medal in women’s cricket | Commonwealth Games News

Australia used THIS rule to field Covid-19 positive Tahila McGrath in CWG 2022 cricket final against India
Tahila’s test result came a few minutes ahead of the toss but the Australia team in consolation with Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) allowed her to play in the final. So, how can a player play a match shortly after getting Covid-19 positive? The rule in CWG 2022 is rather straightforward — it is up to the teams to decide the course of the action if a player tests positive for Covid. Since Tahila had only mild symptoms, Australia decided to allow her to appear in the final. We can say that the Aussies only followed the existing protocol at CWG 2022, but the danger of the virus percolating to other players was, perhaps, overlooked and that leaves the door open for many questions. What happened in the match? Tahila came out to bat at No 4 but was out for 2 in just 4 balls. She did not have any remarkable match with the ball either as Tahila conceded 24 runs in two overs. Tahila was also seen sitting alone at the Grand Stand wearing a mask before she came out to bat. … [Read more...] about Australia used THIS rule to field Covid-19 positive Tahila McGrath in CWG 2022 cricket final against India
