USATSI One thing not a lot of people are talking about with all the Brooklyn Nets drama is how much the Rockets stand to benefit. Houston owns Brooklyn's 2024 and 2026 first-round picks as well as the right to swap first-round picks with the Nets in 2023, 2025 and 2027. If the Nets get worse, which looks like a certainty once Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are traded, those picks that Houston owns suddenly become a lot more valuable. That makes Houston but one of many offseason winners as we're into Day 4 of the free agency period. We'll slowly be factoring in draft results as we flesh out this full list of 2022 offseason winners and losers. This post will continue to update. Here's what we have so far. NBA free agency: Goran Dragic agrees to one-year deal with Bulls, per report
Getty Images Goran Dragic has found a new NBA home. The veteran guard has agreed to a one-year deal worth $2.9 million with the Chicago Bulls , according to The Athletic . The Bulls will be Dragic's sixth team in the league, as he has previously spent time with the Phoenix Suns , Houston Rockets , Miami Heat , Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets . Dragic, 36, is clearly in the twilight of his career, but he still has a little bit left in the tank, as he showed with the Nets last season. In 16 regular-season games with the team at the end of the season, Dragic averaged 7.3 points, 4.8 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game -- solid production for a backup. Despite his advanced age, Dragic clearly isn't ready to call it a career. He said back in April after the Nets were eliminated from the playoffs by the Boston Celtics that he hoped to play "two or three more years." In Chicago, Dragic will join a backcourt that already includes Lonzo Ball , Alex Caruso , … [Read more...] about NBA free agency: Goran Dragic agrees to one-year deal with Bulls, per report
NASCAR Power Rankings: Chase Elliott re-takes the lead after winning at Nashville
Getty Images This season, no driver in the NASCAR Cup Series has been able to clearly assert dominance when it comes to race wins. A full 17 races in, five different drivers are tied for the lead in wins, with all in that category having two apiece. But in another category, one driver -- Chase Elliott -- has clearly been ahead of the competition. In the race for the regular season championship, Chase Elliott has either led the Cup Series points standings or been tied for the lead since Atlanta in March. And whenever his lead has seemed vulnerable, he's always responded. After a poor run at Gateway saw his lead shrink to just nine points, Elliott is now 30 points ahead of Ross Chastain in the regular season standings after getting his second win of the year at Nashville. With Elliott's victory, the top of our CBS Sports NASCAR Power Rankings now mirror the top of the Cup Series standings. Elliott first and Chastain second, followed by Ryan Blaney in third and Kyle Busch in … [Read more...] about NASCAR Power Rankings: Chase Elliott re-takes the lead after winning at Nashville
Report: Raptors believe they can make best offer for Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant may have given Brooklyn a two-team wish list with his trade demand — Phoenix and Miami — but the Nets are under no obligation to abide by his wishes. Durant is under contract for four more years, and the Nets’ priority must be to get the best return in a trade package they can. Which is why the Toronto Raptors are in the conversation . The Raptors — rightfully — believe they can put together a more enticing trade package than any other team, reports Michael Grange at SportsNet . On top of ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reporting Friday that the Raptors are ‘lurking’ in the background of the Kevin Durant trade discussions that have held the NBA hostage in recent days, I can confirm that not only are the Raptors ‘lurking,’ but they also feel they can put together the best package of assets the Brooklyn Nets are likely to get. Confidence isn’t the word for it, but optimism might be. The Raptors’ offer would be based around All-NBA forward Pascal Siakam and wing … [Read more...] about Report: Raptors believe they can make best offer for Kevin Durant
Kyrie Irving trade rumors: Lakers, Nets actively discussing deal involving Russell Westbrook, per report
Getty Images The Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers are making progress on a trade that would swap Kyrie Irving and Russell Westbrook , according to Chris Haynes . Other pieces would have to be involved, but there is "palpable optimism" that the two sides can figure out a deal this summer. Irving recently opted into the final year of his deal worth $36.4 million but is expected to be traded after his star teammate Kevin Durant requested a trade from the Nets. "If Kevin Durant is on the first train out, Kyrie Irving will be on the caboose as far as the Nets are concerned," Brian Windhorst reported earlier this week . Coming off a season in which he played just 29 games because he refused to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, and given his previous injury history -- Irving hasn't played 70 games in a season since 2017 when he was still with the Cleveland Cavaliers -- the market for the mercurial guard is understandably not as robust as the one for Durant. The … [Read more...] about Kyrie Irving trade rumors: Lakers, Nets actively discussing deal involving Russell Westbrook, per report
Best NHL trades of the decade 2010s | ProHockeyTalk | NBC Sports
As 2019 comes to a close, we’re taking a look back at the past decade. We’ll remember the best players and teams, most significant goals, and biggest transactions that have happened since 2010. Let us know your memories in the comments. Best Hockey Trades Seth Jones for Ryan Johansen The Nashville Predators and Columbus Blue Jackets each had a glaring need and were able to help each other when Seth Jones and Ryan Johansen were traded for one another. From Columbus’ perspective, Johansen was not a favorite of coach John Tortorella and already had a lengthy contract dispute. Nashville had an abundance of talent on the blueline and needed to find a top line centerman. When a trade of this magnitude happens, one team usually regrets the move but, in this situation, both teams were left quite pleased. Martin St. Louis for Ryan Callahan It takes a lot of extenuating circumstances for two teams in the thick of a playoff race to trade their captains, but in 2014, the … [Read more...] about Best NHL trades of the decade 2010s | ProHockeyTalk | NBC Sports
Jesse Puljujarvi is the player you want to trade for this offseason
It seems quite likely that Jesse Puljujarvi has played his last game as a member of the Edmonton Oilers. There are a number of factors at play here including Edmonton’s salary cap crunch, his status as a restricted free agent, as well as the fact there seems to be an equal amount of mutual frustration from both sides. When there is this much smoke, there is usually a reason for it. Assuming the Oilers do move him in the coming days, weeks, or months, it has the potential to be a regrettable move for them and a nice win for the team that acquires him on the cheap. Just how cheap? According to Sportsnet’s Mark Spector this past week, the market for Puljujarvi seems to range somewhere between a second-or third-round pick , which is a price that almost any team in the league should be willing to gamble on. They should be willing to do that even if the price is higher. For starters, the odds of a second-or third-round pick (or even a mid-late first-round pick) turning into a … [Read more...] about Jesse Puljujarvi is the player you want to trade for this offseason

Report: Jazz “shutting down” any calls about Donovan Mitchell trade
What the Rudy Gobert trade netted the Jazz was the foundation of a rebuild — four first-round picks plus young players in Walker Kessler and Jarred Vanderbilt . Sure, there were a couple of solid veterans coming back to Utah in Malik Beasley and Patrick Beverley , but this trade didn’t make the Jazz better today, it set them up for tomorrow. Which has teams expecting a Donovan Mitchell trade to be the next domino. The Jazz are shooting that idea down, insisting they will rebuild around Mitchell, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said on the network this weekend (hat tip Clutch Points). "They have shut down any team who's called about trying to trade for Donovan Mitchell. The Jazz are committed to moving forward with him as their cornerstone player." @wojespn on the Utah Jazz's plans with Donovan Mitchell pic.twitter.com/OqPPan8bYy — ClutchPoints (@ClutchPointsApp) July 3, 2022 The catch-22 for Utah: That’s exactly what you’d say publicly to gain leverage and … [Read more...] about Report: Jazz “shutting down” any calls about Donovan Mitchell trade
