India skipper Hardik Pandya on Thursday said in-form opener Shubman Gill will start the T20 series against New Zealand ahead of Prithvi Shaw , who has made a comeback to the national team. Considering Gill's sensational run in ODIs, Hardik said his selection was a no-brainer. Gill has smashed three hundreds including a double ton in his last four innings. Ishan Kishan is expected to open alongside Gill. When asked, whether Prithvi Shaw will play the first T20I, Hardik said. "No sir. Shubman has done well and will start the series. The way he is batting and was already in the team," said Hardik ahead of the first T20I. Hardik bowled with the new ball in the T20Is against Sri Lanka before doing the same in the third ODI against New Zealand on Tuesday with Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj being rested from the game. Hardik said he likes bowling with the new ball. "I have always enjoyed bowling with the new ball. Panthers hire Frank Reich: Lawyer representing Steve Wilks says ‘there is a legitimate race problem in NFL’
Getty Images Despite his impressive work as the Panthers ' interim head coach, Steve Wilks was not chosen to be Carolina's permanent coach. The job instead went to Frank Reich , who was fired by the Colts nine games into the 2022 season. Attorney Douglas Wigdor, who represents Wilks in Brian Flores' pending racial discrimination case against the NFL , issued a statement after the Panthers announced the hiring of Reich. "We are shocked and disturbed that after the incredible job Coach Wilks did as the interim coach, including bringing the team back into Playoff contention and garnering the support of the players and fans, that he was passed over for the Head Coach position by David Tepper. "There is a legitimate race problem in the NFL, and we can assure you that we will have more to say in the coming days." Wilks received rave reviews from Panthers players after replacing Matt Rhule after the team's 1-4 start. The Panthers went 6-6 under Wilks and finished just … [Read more...] about Panthers hire Frank Reich: Lawyer representing Steve Wilks says ‘there is a legitimate race problem in NFL’
Chiefs’ Willie Gay says ‘nothing’ impresses him about Bengals offense ahead of AFC title game rematch
Getty Images While they aren't yet on the level of other historic postseason rivalries, the Bengals-Chiefs rivalry continues to gain traction ahead of Sunday's AFC title game rematch. The two teams have engaged in lively banter in the days leading up to Sunday's game. It apparently started when Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton renamed the Chiefs ' home field to "Burrowhead," a quip that didn't sit well with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce . Kansas City linebacker Willie Gay recently upped the ante when asked if there was anything that impressed him about the Bengals offense. "Nothing," Gay said, via Cleveland.com . "Nothing." Gay was a little more technical when asked what he can do to in order to help the Chiefs snap their three-game losing streak against the Bengals. "Stop the run, for sure," said Gay, who had five tackles and one pass defended in the Chiefs' Week 13 loss to the Bengals. "You know they going to try to do that, to act like they can big boy … [Read more...] about Chiefs’ Willie Gay says ‘nothing’ impresses him about Bengals offense ahead of AFC title game rematch
Off The Fence: Allegorie De Vassy could struggle at Cheltenham if jumping errors continue, says Barry Geraghty
Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning rider Barry Geraghty thinks Mares' Chase favourite could come unstuck at the Cheltenham Festival unless she brushes up on her jumping technique. The six-year-old again proved much too good for her rivals last weekend in a Grade Two novice chase at Thurles, but not without a major scare at the first fence, when diving out to her right and almost unseating jockey Paul Townend in the process. The Willie Mullins-trained mare would go on to win easily despite some cumbersome leaps, with some bookmakers cutting her into as short as 5/4 for the Mares' Chase at Cheltenham. Joe Dadancer 1.05 - Sky Bet UKs No.1 Betting App Novices' Hurdle A breathing op and the addition of a first-time tongue tie appeared to bring JOE DADANCER back to form over this course and distance 17 days ago, having been a huge disappointment on his seasonal debut at Wetherby, when sent off a 13/8 favourite. While the formbook will say he was well-held last time out, time may tell that he had a tough job on trying to give 7lb to the winner Hidden Beauty, especially as he shaped a bit better than the distance beaten having travelled well. With the Ben Pauling yard having a good season and Joe Dadancer's dam Sister Phoebe a full-sister to Captain Cee Bee, hopefully there is more to come. Trending Transfer Centre LIVE! How Chelsea’s new spin on long-term contracts aligns with Todd Boehly’s approach as Dodgers minority owner
Getty Images The year is 2029. Graham Potter's vibrant Chelsea side are once more sweeping all ahead of them, swashbuckling in attack but with the defensive instincts that only come through years together on the training ground. Yet another Champions League is seemingly within reach for this side, who, for what feels like a generation, have grown together into a footballing force. That, perhaps, is the end vision underpinning Chelsea's radical new approach to the management of contracts at Stamford Bridge. In an era of dwindling patience and fast fixes, the Todd Boehly-led consortium that took control last summer are building a squad for the long term, whether they like it or not. Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. victim of additional racist abuse from Atletico Madrid fans ahead of derby
Getty Images Atletico Madrid supporters have targeted Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior with racial abuse ahead of Thursday's Copa del Rey meeting between the two rivals. A banner reading "Madrid hates Real" was unfurled near Ciudad Deportiva and the inciteful text was accompanied by a large doll being hung by its neck. The figure was wearing the white kit of Real and had Vinicius Junior's name and number on the back. The star attacker has a history of being the victim of racial abuse during his time in Spain. The Brazilian international was targeted by Atleti supporters when the two teams met earlier this season . The text on the banner, hanging above the doll, is one of the slogans used by a known group of Atleti ultras that has displayed similar banners over the years. Atletico issued an official statement condemning the behavior, saying " these are repugnant and inadmissible acts that shame society ." "The rivalry between the two clubs is the greatest, but so is … [Read more...] about Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. victim of additional racist abuse from Atletico Madrid fans ahead of derby
Manchester City vs. Arsenal: Oleksandr Zinchenko is making his former club pay for their generosity
Getty Images It may yet be the most telling mistake Manchester City have made in recent seasons. The moments that cost them a English league three-peat -- as sizeable a mark of greatness as any in this country -- might have come before a ball was kicked when they sold first Gabriel Jesus and then Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal . Not even the Gunners' own sales of Ashley Cole, Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie compare as an act of self-sabotage; Arsenal did not forge contenders with those sales nor did they have much of a title challenge to handicap. They had a stadium to finance. Pep Guardiola had no such concerns in sending two squad players to north London. It was the move the players wanted and the Premier League champions wanted to do right by them. City did not see this Arsenal emerging, the one they will face first in Friday's FA Cup fourth-round tie, a mere warmup act to the title showdown that their meeting on February 15 may yet be. If they had, then the … [Read more...] about Manchester City vs. Arsenal: Oleksandr Zinchenko is making his former club pay for their generosity
