Flick has been tipped to take over as Germany coach when Joachim Low leaves his post following this year's Euro 2020. Having previously worked as assistant to Niko Kovac, Flick took sole charge of the Bavarian giants following the Croatian's sacking in November 2019. He subsequently led them to a Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League treble, earning a new contract that ran until 2023 in the process. However, after weeks of speculation, Flick has now revealed that he wishes to depart at the end of the season. "I told the team today that I would like to get out of my contract this summer," he told Sky following a 3-2 win over Wolfsburg on Saturday. Wolfsburg 2-3 Bayern Munich: Musiala double as champions extend Bundesliga lead "I already told those responsible after the Champions League elimination [against Paris Saint-Germain] during the week. I wanted to tell the team personally. Lewis Hamilton takes 99th F1 pole after edging out Red Bulls in Emilia Romagna GP qualifying
Lewis Hamilton secured a superb 99th Formula 1 pole position after edging out Red Bull's Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen in a frenetic and extremely close Emilia Romagna GP qualifying. Hamilton had been quiet throughout the Imola weekend but burst into form in Saturday's shootout, with his first Q3 lap - a 1:14.411 - enough to hold off the competition as the seven-time world champion single-handedly carried the fight for Mercedes against F1's charging Bulls. Hamilton was just 0.035s ahead of Perez, who out-qualified Verstappen on just his second race weekend in the Red Bull. Get Sky Sports F1 for just £18 extra a month Don't miss a second. Austin Dillon troubled no more at Richmond
Once upon a time, Richmond Raceway felt like a puzzle Austin Dillon would never solve. His first nine Cup starts at the 3/4-mile short track yielded no finishes better than 13th. “I sucked there at the beginning of my career,” Dillon said this week in a media teleconference. “I dreaded going there. I said I wished Richmond would just not be a track anymore.” But while he’s still seeking his first win at Richmond, the puzzle pieces are starting to fit. In last September’s Cup Series playoff race at Richmond , Dillon recovered from a pit road speeding penalty and missing pit entrance prior to another stop to finish fourth. The outing was critical in Dillon advancing into the Round of 12. It was also Dillon’s third finish of sixth or better in his last four Richmond races. And as he returns there Sunday (3 p.m. ET on Fox), his past worries are gone. “We really looked at everything we did last year and didn’t change a whole lot,” he said. “But we went back over some things in … [Read more...] about Austin Dillon troubled no more at Richmond
Lewis Hamilton ‘surprised’ to beat Red Bulls to Emilia-Romagna GP pole as he continues to ‘love’ new fight
Lewis Hamilton insisted he was genuinely "shocked" to have overcome the Red Bulls for his first pole position of the 2021 season at the Emilia-Romagna GP - and admitted F1's fierce new inter-team fight was "challenging me in a different way". The seven-time world champion celebrated his 99th F1 pole at Imola on Saturday but said he had not been expecting to top qualifying, particularly after final practice earlier on Saturday when Max Verstappen outpaced him by six tenths of a second. "For us it's a real surprise," said Hamilton to Sky Sports F1 . "You heard it on the radio for us. We do have a small deficit in performance, we felt at least. We saw it in the last race, we've seen it through the weekend.
