2022 New York Knicks Summer League: Roster, schedule, TV channel, live stream, players to watch

July 6, 2022 by www.cbssports.com Leave a Comment

Getty Images After making the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade in 2021, the New York Knicks were not able to build on that success last season. They took a major step back and finished in 11th place with just 37 wins -- a mark that wasn't even good enough for the play-in tournament. They've responded with an aggressive offseason approach focused on signing Jalen Brunson in free agency. In fact, they may have been a bit too eager, as league sources expect the Knicks will get penalized for tampering, according to Fred Katz . Reports emerged of a four-year, $104 million deal before free agency officially opened. Of course, the Knicks won't care, and any fine or loss of a draft pick will be worth the price to get their man. Speaking of draft picks, the Knicks traded out of the first round this year, using a series of deals to acquire future first-round picks and clear cap space to make a worthy offer to Brunson. That will make Knicks' Summer League experience … [Read more...] about 2022 New York Knicks Summer League: Roster, schedule, TV channel, live stream, players to watch

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The New Jersey Devils have named their first female assistant general manager, making Kate Madigan the sixth woman to hold the title in the NHL. General Manager Tom Fitzgerald announced the promotion Wednesday, the day before the NHL draft. “Kate has been an incredibly valuable resource to not only me, but to our entire hockey operations leadership staff, particularly over the past three years, as part of key hockey decisions,” Fitzgerald said. “This promotion is reflective of the duties and responsibilities that Kate has assumed within our organization during that time. “Her diligence, work ethic, attention to detail, ability to communicate with all staff, strategy and vision are qualities that I look for in our leadership,” he added. The NHL has seen several women promoted to the assistant general manager’s role in the last month, with Hayley Wickenheiser getting the job in Toronto this week and Meghan Hunter promoted in Chicago last month. NHL Draft 2022: Shane Wright, Matthew Savoie, Jonathan Lekkerimaki, other top prospects available in Round 1

July 6, 2022 by www.cbssports.com Leave a Comment

Getty Images The first order of business this NHL offseason is the 2022 Draft. It'll be here soon, as the opening round is set for Thursday evening. Kingston Frontenacs (Ontario Hockey League) center Shane Wright has been tabbed as the top prospect in the 2022 class. It's fairly likely that he'll go to the Montreal Canadiens with the top pick, but it's not a slam dunk like we've seen in recent years with the likes of Owen Power , Alexis Lafreniere and Jack Hughes going No. 1. So as the 2022 Draft draws closer, and that uncertainty up top lingers, here's a closer look at some of the top prospects that will hear their names called during Round 1. Shane Wright - C, Kingston (OHL) Wright isn't a shoe-in for the top pick, but he has a tremendous amount of upside that warrants the Canadiens grabbing him at No. 1. The Kingston center is about as lethal as it gets when he has the puck in open space. He possesses a deadly accurate shot. Over his past two seasons with the … [Read more...] about NHL Draft 2022: Shane Wright, Matthew Savoie, Jonathan Lekkerimaki, other top prospects available in Round 1

NBA offseason winners and losers: Knicks’ star search incomplete; Spurs eyeing top pick; Thunder keep building

Getty Images As the 2022 NBA free agency period dies down, all eyes turn to the deals yet to be completed. It's presumed that Kevin Durant is headed out of Brooklyn, which could also trade Kyrie Irving, for whom the Lakers are angling. The Suns haven't resolved their DeAndre Ayton dilemma (will someone emerge as a sign-and-trade partner?). Philly is working with James Harden on an extension, but nothing has been announced. For now, taking into account the draft, trades and free-agent signings, here is my list of 2022 offseason winners and losers. This post will continue to update. Here's what we have so far. College football realignment: Pac-12 negotiating with ESPN, FOX for media rights, per CBS Sports

July 5, 2022 by 247sports.com Leave a Comment

The Pac-12 released a statement Tuesday morning announcing the start of its next round of media rights negotiations. With USC and UCLA heading to the Big Ten by 2024, and reports from CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd about more schools potentially leaving the league, plenty of uncertainty remains about the future of the Pac-12. Following the announcement, Dodd reported the Pac-12 will begin negotiations with both ESPN and FOX Sports. "Indications are the Pac-12 will begin an exclusive 30-day negotiation window with ESPN and Fox," Dodd wrote . "Other bidders can then weigh in after that if a deal isn't done." CBS Sports' Shehan Jeyarajah put some perspective on what the Pac-12’s goal is with these negotiations. “Put into plain English: Pac-12 schools want to understand how much money is on the table for them if the current conference continues to exist post-USC/UCLA,” Jeyarajah wrote . “If the numbers are bad, they'll quickly try to find new landing spots.” Also on Tuesday, … [Read more...] about College football realignment: Pac-12 negotiating with ESPN, FOX for media rights, per CBS Sports

College football realignment: Arizona State, Colorado release statements amid Pac-12 media negotiations

July 5, 2022 by 247sports.com Leave a Comment

As USC and UCLA sent the new college football world into motion, the school’s departures for the Big Ten left the rest of the Pac-12 spinning. But it appears at least two schools are in solidarity with the conference for now. Arizona State and Colorado released statements Tuesday saying the schools remained fully committed to the Pac-12. This came on the heels of a report of the Big 12 being in “deep discussions” to add up to six Pac-12 teams, which included Arizona State and Colorado. “ASU remains fully committed to the Pac-12 Conference,” Arizona State athletic director Ray Anderson said in a statement. “ASU continues to work closely with the other remaining conference members to advance the best interests of its student-athletes as well as to support the continued success of the conference itself.” Colorado also doubled down on its support of the Pac-12. “CU Boulder supports the decision of the Pac-12 Board of Directors this morning to begin conference media rights … [Read more...] about College football realignment: Arizona State, Colorado release statements amid Pac-12 media negotiations

President Joe Biden tells Brittney Griner’s wife he is pursuing ‘every avenue’ to bring WNBA star home

Getty Images Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner, who remains detained in Russia indefinitely on alleged drug charges , sent a letter to the White House on Monday appealing directly to President Joe Biden to fight for her freedom. On Wednesday, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris spoke with Griner's wife, Cherelle. "The President called Cherelle to reassure her that he is working to secure Brittney's release as soon as possible," the White House said in a statement . "The President offered his support to Cherelle and Brittney's family, and he committed to ensuring they are provided with all possible assistance while his administration pursues every avenue to bring Brittney home." The call with Biden and Harris came after Cherelle, told CBS Mornings on Tuesday that it had been "very disheartening" to not hear from President Biden yet. "It kills me every time that, you know, when I have to write her and she's asking, 'Have you met with them yet?' And I have to say … [Read more...] about President Joe Biden tells Brittney Griner’s wife he is pursuing ‘every avenue’ to bring WNBA star home

Dribble Handoff: Kevin McCullar, Tyrese Hunter among picks for college basketball’s top impact transfer

Getty Images The commitment of former Memphis guard Emoni Bates to Eastern Michigan last week unofficially closed the book on college basketball's 2022 transfer cycle. While there are still a handful of players in the portal who figure to land at Division I schools next season, nearly all of the transfers with the potential to be difference-makers have announced their destinations. As rosters for the 2022-23 season inch closer to becoming finalized, some winners and losers from transfer portal season have emerged from a team perspective. But which individuals will make the most noise on college basketball's national scene as transfers? It can be hard to project because last season showed us that players can appear from the weeds to become stars once they are in new environments. Look no further than Alondes Williams and Jake LaRavia, who earned All-ACC honors while helping improve Wake Forest from 6-16 in coach Steve Forbes' first season to 25-10 during his second … [Read more...] about Dribble Handoff: Kevin McCullar, Tyrese Hunter among picks for college basketball’s top impact transfer

Eredivisie round-up: Feyenoord hit seven past Sparta Rotterdam in city derby

December 17, 2017 by www.skysports.com Leave a Comment

Feyenoord romped a record derby win over Sparta Rotterdam, stunning their rivals with a 7-0 away success. Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side were ruthless at Het Kasteel, taking a four-goal lead inside half-an-hour before adding three more after half-time. Tonny Vilhena opened the scoring in the fourth minute and helped himself to a second before the break, while Dylan Vente, Jerry St Juste, Renato Tapia, Steven Berghuis and Bilal Basacikoglu also hit the target. The result lifted Feyenoord to fifth in the Eredivisie table and left Sparta level with bottom club Roda JC. Ajax won the battle of second against third, beating AZ Alkmaar 2-1 at AFAS Stadion.
