Artist Dinh Cong Dat (Source: internet) Hanoi (VNA) - Many artists have created their art pieces with images of pigs, as the animal is the zodiac sign of 2019. Artist Dinh Cong Dat is one of them. Hanoian artist Dinh Cong Dat graduated from the sculpture department of Hanoi Fine Art University in 1994. He has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions across the nation and the world, such as Fielding Lecht Gallery in Texas, the US, the Bankside Gallery in London, and the Iskandar Gallery in Paris, France. For this new lunar year, he introduced pig sculptures made from paper powder and immediately gained public attention. Dat painted square patterns on the pigs’ backs, explaining that these depict the paddy fields that he came across whenever flying home after overseas trips. “I think there’s more to tradition than the spiral patterns as commonly seen in Dong Ho paintings. As the pig is the animal zodiac sign of the upcoming lunar year, it would be fitting to visit long-standing facilities that create earthen piggy banks and see how the process unfolds in Vietnam. Binh Duong, an economically rising province contiguous to Ho Chi Minh City, is famous for its many piggy-bank facilities and in its Tan Uyen Town, five families have made piggy banks for a living over the past two decades. The families work averagely over 12 hours a day and each bake 4,500-8,000 clay piggy banks every month. Their sales ascend in the run-up to the Lunar New Year, which is due in February, as people break savings-filled piggy banks to have money for shopping on the special occasion and purchasing replacements, said Nguyen Van Nhan, a local piggy-bank maker. MANILA- The new year, or the year of the earth pig, will be better than 2018, or the year of the earth dog, a feng shui expert said Friday. "We will have a lot of opportunities. Younger generations will have better opportunities," feng shui expert Hanz Cua told ANC. For those planning to venture into new businesses, Cua said fire and earth-related businesses would likely be a big hit. The year 2019, according to Cua, will be an "excellent year" for businesses related to food, electronics and technology, real estate, agriculture, and poultry. For those looking to boost their income flow, wearing red may help, while wearing pink could help attract love in 2019, Cua said. To welcome a prosperous year, Cua advises displaying a "prosperity pig," hanging lucky charms on the door, and giving out "ang pao" or red envelopes with money to children. Rice, sugar, and salt containers should also be full at the start of the year, he added.
