Michael McCarthy @MMcCarthyREV Updated at 9:57 a.m. ET Updated at 9:57 a.m. ET ESPN's "Monday Night Football" TV problems continued this week, with the network suffering its lowest-ever overnight ratings for Week 2. If "MNF" continues to slide as a TV property, the question arises whether ESPN should heed Wall Street's advice and pursue other NFL TV packages down the road. ESPN's telecast of the Bears' 24-17 win over the Seahawks drew an 8.2 overnight TV rating, according to Nielsen. That's down 5.7 percent from the 8.7 overnight for Giants vs. Lions during Week 2 last season. It was the lowest Week 2 overnight ever for ESPN, Austin Karp of SportsBusiness Daily reported. The key dates to watch will be the Sunday night games (of course), the Thursday night games, the Monday night games (including the Week One doubleheader), the Thanksgiving games, and the all-important season-opening Thursday game, to be played in Philadelphia. The music blared at ear-splitting levels Monday night at Lafayette's Fisher Stadium, but its genre was not the hip-hop and rap that is very likely heard through the headsets of the football players as they walk around the campus.Nope, the star of this show was Hank Williams Jr., whose down-home country style isn't likely to be compared any time soon to that of Drake, Future and the rest of that crowd. The words were easy to understand:"Are you ready for some football — a Monday night party?" or "all my rowdy friends are back for Monday night. Football, that is!"The late Howard Cosell was up there on the stadium's huge video scoreboard. So were "Frank [Gifford], and Al [Michaels] and Dan [Dierdorf]."The game clips included William "Refrigerator" Perry spiking the football after scoring a touchdown for the Chicago Bears, Tony Dorsett running 99 yards for a touchdown for the Cowboys, Jerry Rice hauling in a touchdown pass from Joe Montana for the 49ers.Today's Leopards weren't born … [Read more...] about Lafayette football players get history lesson during Monday night practice
