Darlene Superville Associated Press Updated 5:07 p.m. UTC Aug 20, 2018 Rockville, Md. – Melania Trump talked up the importance of teaching children positive cyber habits Monday on the same morning that her husband sent tweets deriding current and former U.S. officials, including one message referring to a former CIA director as a “political hack.” Asked about the contradictory messages, the first lady’s office said in a statement that she “is aware of the criticism but it will not deter her from doing what she feels is right. The President is proud of her commitment to children and encourages her in all that she does.” Mrs. Trump delivered brief remarks to help open a government-sponsored summit called Federal Partners on Bullying Prevention, encouraging social media and technology companies to provide more opportunities for young people to share ideas for how to be good citizens online. PPP review: ‘Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa Wifi’ sends powerful message
Nerdy introvert and social media hermit Aries (Jameson Blake) is smitten with the quirky wide-eyed beauty of Norma (Sue Ramirez) from the first time he saw her on campus. He never got the guts to tell her what he felt for her, and just admired her from a distance. Aries was shocked to learn that Norma already had a boyfriend -- a popular basketball jock and (unfortunately) his very own older brother, Leo (Markus Paterson). One day, Norma had a nosebleed and felt very ill. All the tests at the hospital had normal results. When it seemed that she was experiencing a hypersensitivity to electromagnetic radiation from WiFi signals, Norma had to retreat to her grandmother's house six hours away from the city to escape her curse. This forced leave away from online technology would make Norma realize who really loved her more. Sue Ramirez is a winsome young actress with unconventional good looks. Her most remarkable facial features are her big round soulful eyes, which set her apart from … [Read more...] about PPP review: ‘Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa Wifi’ sends powerful message
Pay up or else: Spanish police warns of online ‘sextorsion’
Spanish police warned Saturday of a massive blackmail campaign to expose web users' supposed visits to porn sites unless they pay up -- a technique police calls 'sextorsion'. "Criminals send an email in which they give a personal password belonging to the target, and which was apparently obtained years ago by mass internet piracy, or they may claim that the user's computer has been pirated," police said in a statement. "They claim to be in possession of personal intimate pictures or videos obtained through the computer's webcam when the user was visiting pornographic sites and they demand payment in bitcoin or other virtual currencies within 24 hours to stop them from publishing them," it said. Demands are typically for between $400 and $2,900, and the cyber criminals threaten to send the videos to the person's "loved ones" unless they pay up. Police recommend that targets of the shakedown stay calm and refuse to pay because the blackmailers are usually bluffing and have no video … [Read more...] about Pay up or else: Spanish police warns of online ‘sextorsion’
Online daters aim ‘out of their league,’ study says
Most people who use online dating websites seek partners who are out of their league, said a study Wednesday based on heterosexuals in four big U.S. cities. "Both men and women pursued partners about 25 percent more 'desirable' than themselves," said the report in the journal Science Advances. Hardly anyone reached out to people who ranked significantly lower than themselves. People's desirability was determined using a ranking algorithm based on how many messages they received from other popular users on a dating site in New York, Seattle, Boston and Chicago. "If you are contacted by people who are themselves desirable, then you are presumably more desirable yourself," said the study. Using this PageRank algorithm, which is employed by web search engines, researchers could establish a person's "league," which they scientifically coined "hierarchies of desirability." For some at the pinnacle of the dating game, the flurry of messages from would-be suitors was dizzying. "The most … [Read more...] about Online daters aim ‘out of their league,’ study says
WhatsApp out to make money from business messages
SAN FRANCISCO - Facebook on Wednesday set out to make money from WhatsApp with a scheme to connect businesses with customers via the smartphone messaging service. Facebook said it has been testing a "WhatsApp Business" tool for months with more than 90 companies including Uber and Singapore Airlines. "We're introducing a solution for businesses that require more powerful tools to chat on WhatsApp and a new way for people to quickly start a WhatsApp conversation from an ad on Facebook," the leading social network said in an online post. WhatsApp Business lets companies send "non-promotional" content such as shipping information, charging for confirmed deliveries. Companies will be able to respond free to questions or comments sent to them on WhatsApp, as long as the responses are fired off within 24 hours. Tardy responses by businesses will incur costs. Some Facebook ads will also feature an easy way to initiate WhatsApp conversations with the businesses. "Facebook Ads that click to … [Read more...] about WhatsApp out to make money from business messages
