India vs England, 4th Test: Axar, Ashwin Share Seven Wickets to Give Hosts The Upper Hand

· March 4, 2021 ·

India vs England 4th Test, Day 1: England’s batsmen lost the battle of both mind and skills in yet another shoddy performance to surrender the momentum to India with Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin calling the shots on the opening day of the fourth and final Test here on Thursday. After five innings, England crossed the 200-run mark but a total of 205 in 75.5 overs was certainly not what Joe Root had expected when he called it right at the toss on a day which would have ideally been best for batting. There was turn and bounce but the pitch was far from being a minefield that some of the England batsmen save Ben Stokes (55, 121 balls) made it out to be. For India, spinners Axar Patel (26-7-68-4), Ravichandran Ashwin (19.5-4-47-3) and Washington Sundar (7-1-14-1) toyed with the already messed up minds, clueless on how to deal with the conditions. Mohammed Siraj (14-2-45-2) also played his part to perfection with the semi-new and old ball, hurrying the batsmen with sheer pace as … [Read more...] about India vs England, 4th Test: Axar, Ashwin Share Seven Wickets to Give Hosts The Upper Hand

India vs England, 4th Test: Michael Vaughan slams England batsmen for poor batting on perfect pitch

· March 4, 2021 ·

England skipper Joe Root won the toss and opted to bat first, but the batters failed to make the most and lost wickets quickly in the first session of play. Vaughan, who has been quite vocal in his criticism of the pitches used in the series, called this pitch "perfect" and blamed England batters for failing to score runs. Taking to Twitter Vaughan wrote, "England's batting so far worse than any of the last few Tests ... This Pitch is a perfect surface to get a big first innings score ... No spin ... Ball coming onto the Bat ... Very poor Batting so far ... #INDvENG." Left-arm spinner Axar Patel's twin strike and Mohammed Siraj's prized scalp of Joe Root helped India gain an upper hand in the first session. England openers Dominic Sibley and Zak Crawley saw off the first five overs bowled by the Indian pacers -- Ishant Sharma and Siraj, who has come into the side in place of Jasprit Bumrah. However, the introduction of Axar in the sixth over brought immediate reward for the hosts … [Read more...] about India vs England, 4th Test: Michael Vaughan slams England batsmen for poor batting on perfect pitch

Stokes, Pope fight but India keep England in check

· April 4, 2021 ·

ENGLAND TOUR OF INDIA, 2021 by Cricbuzz Staff • Published on Share Tweet Ben Stokes fell soon after his fifty as England went into Tea five down © BCCI Ben Stokes made 55 but India continued to put pressure on England as the visitors went to Tea at 144 for 5 on Day 1 of the fourth Test in Ahmedabad . England lost Jonny Bairstow and Stokes in the session after both batsmen looked settled at the crease. Post the lunch break, India decided to start with R Ashwin and Mohammed Siraj. The latter struck in the fourth over of the session when he pinged Bairstow in front with a delivery that came in and beat the batsman for pace. Bairstow did go for the review but replays confirmed the ball was clipping the top of the stumps. Stokes, who had hit the second ball he had faced Ashwin for a six, took the watchful approach against the off-spinner and tried to trust his defence. Stokes soon found his rhythm and also struck Washington … [Read more...] about Stokes, Pope fight but India keep England in check

With series on the line, Australia hope for Wellington encore

· April 4, 2021 ·

AUSTRALIA TOUR OF NEW ZEALAND 2021 by Bharat Sundaresan • Last updated on Share Tweet Aaron Finch returned to form with a fifty in the third T20I © Getty What score would Aaron Finch have to make to feel safe in the T20I team? Would anything above 30 make him feel secure at least? Would something over 50 ensure his place is no longer in doubt? Would anything below 30 mean he should be on his way out? These were but some of the leading questions around Australia prior to the third match of the T20I series in New Zealand. While the scrutiny around the Australian captain's form with the bat and the deadline for him coming good seemed to be the focus, it also didn't help that the visitors were 0-2 down in the series with the third match a must-win game. Eventually, Finch not only answered his realistic critics and the non-objective naysayers in style, but he also showed once more why his current form doesn't and shouldn't … [Read more...] about With series on the line, Australia hope for Wellington encore
