In 2020, he became the first freshman to earn first-team All-Conference USA honors. The West Virginia native has at least two years of eligibility remaining, not counting the blanket eligibility waiver granted by the NCAA after the COVID-19 season. After announcing Lock would start over Geno Smith , who started Seattle's preseason opener last week, Carroll explained that rotating the starting quarterback was a pre-planned decision. "We had planned well back before the offseason even started to get to this game, the second game, Geno would be the starter in (the mock game) at Lumen and the opening game, then we would go with Drew in the second game," Carroll said. Phillies’ Noah Syndergaard has start pushed back, and the ex-Mets pitcher won’t face his old team this season
USATSI This Phillies are set to face the Mets in a four-game series in Philadelphia this coming weekend. Former Mets starter Noah Syndergaard , now with the Phillies after being traded there from the Angels in a deadline deal, will not be facing his former team. For the second time this season, Syndergaard was lined up to face the Mets, but circumstances have pushed him back. Back when Syndergaard was with the Angels, the Mets visited Anaheim for a three-game series, June 10-12. He was lined up to start the second game of the series, but instead the Angels re-shuffled the rotation and had him go from June 6 until June 14 between starts. Word from the team at the time was that he needed extra rest. This time around, Syndergaard started Monday against the Reds and was lined up to start Sunday against the Mets. Instead, the Phillies have moved Kyle Gibson up a day to start Sunday (on normal rest) and moved Syndergaard back to take the ball Monday against the Reds … [Read more...] about Phillies’ Noah Syndergaard has start pushed back, and the ex-Mets pitcher won’t face his old team this season

Michigan QB battle: Jim Harbaugh suggests Cade McNamara, J.J. McCarthy competition could run into season
USA Today Sports Images Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh is open to the possibility of playing both Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy well into the 2022 season if the heated quarterback battle cannot be solved by Week 1 against Colorado State . McNamara, a senior, and McCarthy, a sophomore, have been competing hard this offseason to be QB1 after sharing snaps last season. "This is a very good unique situation. We have two quarterbacks that are playing at a high starter level and we're gonna keep competing and it's possible there's a starter by the first game, and then possible that it plays into the season." Harbaugh said Wednesday , per MLive.com. "Then we pick the one that's gonna help the team win, who's gonna be the best person to play quarterback to win the game." DeVonta Smith admits things ‘starting to slow down’ for him in Eagles offense as he primes for big year two
DeVonta Smith had the best season for a rookie wide receiver in Philadelphia Eagles history, creating bigger expectations for year two with the franchise. The Eagles acquired A.J. Brown this offseason to fortify the passing game, making Smith the forgotten man amongst the stars of the Eagles offense. At the NovaCare Complex, Smith has been far from forgettable. Since returning from missing a few practices with a groin injury, Smith has dazzled with contested catches and becoming the go-to receiver for Jalen Hurts . He beat James Bradberry for a deep touchdown in one-on-ones in Sunday's session and made an impressive catch as Hurts rolled to his left in Tuesday's practice. There's no secret Smith is a better receiver than he was last year -- and he was pretty good in year one. "I know the offense now," Smith said to CBS Sports HQ at Eagles camp Tuesday. "I don't have to worry about this play...I know what I gotta do. I can just focus on the details and like that. The … [Read more...] about DeVonta Smith admits things ‘starting to slow down’ for him in Eagles offense as he primes for big year two
Baker Mayfield traded to Panthers: Robbie Anderson says he has no issue with QB after previous post goes viral
USATSI After months of speculation, the Carolina Panthers finally were able to pull off a trade that landed the franchise Baker Mayfield . The club sent a conditional fifth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for the former No. 1 overall pick, who is now slated to be the team's Week 1 starter. As this trade came across the NFL news wire, folks were quick to point out a prior post by current Panthers wideout Robbie Anderson that didn't seem like the pass-catcher was all too hyped about the idea of his team trading for Mayfield. Back in April, Panthers.way on Instagram posted a report that said Carolina was an ideal landing spot for Mayfield, and Anderson commented "Nooooo." That wasn't all, as the same Instagram account posted another picture saying Anderson doesn't want Mayfield to come to Carolina. Anderson again commented saying, "Facts." Welp. Now Mayfield will be the guy throwing Anderson the football in 2022 and the 29-year-old did take to social … [Read more...] about Baker Mayfield traded to Panthers: Robbie Anderson says he has no issue with QB after previous post goes viral
