For the teams that are watching at home, retaining talent and reshaping rosters take priority. The Los Angeles Chargers are trying to retain possibly their best player, according to an ESPN report on Thursday. Quarterback Philip Rivers is entering the final year of his contract, based on an extension he signed in 2015, and the Chargers reportedly want to talk to him about an extension this offseason.General manager Tom Telesco previously said he wants Rivers to finish his career with the Chargers. Representatives for Rivers have not talked to the Chargers yet, but Telesco said on Thursday the team plans to have those conversations over the summer. The 37-year-old just had one of his best seasons … [Read more...] about NFL Rumors: Philip Rivers Staying With Chargers? Morgan Burnett Wants To Leave Steelers?
Sheffield Steelers sent out a ruthless signal today by cutting three imports from the roster. Goaltender Matt Climie and forwards Justin Buzzeo and Stefan Della Rovere were all told this morning their services were no longer required. Losing three players from any EIHL squad is a drastic step. But the club will be hoping to find replacements quickly, one perhaps before the weekend.Fans may feel that the three selected for the cut were unlucky - there are plenty of others who have under-performed as the team slipped to next to bottom. It will certainly be a career low-point for the trio.Buzzeo is the team's sixth top scorer and fifth top assist-provider. His removal is perhaps the biggest surprise, although coach Tom Barrasso had previously expresses his personal sadness when he sat Della Rovere out as a healthy scratch in one game - as he'd coached him at a previous club.Climie was brought in by Tom Barrasso, but he pulled him in out of action his last game, at Dundee … [Read more...] about The axe falls on three Sheffield Steelers’ imports

With his team trailing the New Orleans Saints by 3 points in the final minute, the second-year receiver made a catch that put his team in field goal position — but the ball popped loose as he was wrapped up by Sheldon Rankins, and the Saints recovered. The uncharacteristic mistake by Smith-Schuster could scarcely have been more costly. It gave the Saints a 31-28 win at home, and it knocked the Steelers out of the top spot in the A.F.C. North and, at least temporarily, out of the playoff picture entirely. It also secured home field advantage throughout the playoffs … [Read more...] about Late Fumble Costs Steelers a Win, and Maybe More, Against the Saints
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster just wants to move on from last December's physical primetime meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals. But the second-year wideout thrust himself into one of the fiercest rivalries in the NFL last season with a memorable block against Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict. Smith-Schuster was reminded of the hit prior to Sunday's game at Cincinnati. "I didn't want to talk about it," Smith-Schuster said. "I knew you guys were going to want to talk about this and make something out of it, but I am just trying to get a "W'' this weekend, that's it."Last December, Smith-Schuster delivered a punishing blindside block on Burfict, the Steeler agitator, who ended running back Le'Veon Bell's season in 2015, and injured quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and receiver Antonio Brown in the same playoff game at Cincinnati later that year.Smith-Schuster got a 15-yard penalty for the block and another penalty for taunting when he stood over … [Read more...] about Steelers prepare for another physical battle with Bengals

They hosted Kings Cross Steelers this Saturday, hoping to put right the many wrongs that had been highlighted the previous week against Braintree. As Steelers had been promoted to the league and with some familiar faces returning Millwall had targeted this game as a must win. However, following a positive opening thirty seconds for Millwall, it was Steelers who were in charge. Wave after wave of attack ran against Millwall’s defence and it was only some last ditch try-line defence that kept out the visitors. Millwall’s basics let them down and some inexcusable defence allowed Steeler’s 10 to break through the defence on more than one … [Read more...] about Rugby: Millwall 3 Kings Cross Steelers 27
