Baltimore Ravens punter Sam Koch announced this month that he is retiring as an NFL player after 16 seasons. The Nebraska product played his entire professional career in Baltimore after being picked in the sixth round of the 2006 NFL Draft, becoming the franchise’s all-time leader in games played (256). Koch, who was born and raised in Nebraska, walked on for the Cornhuskers in 2001 and eventually went on to earn a scholarship. He expressed his appreciation for both his home state and the Nebraska football program during an emotional retirement press conference. "I grew up in the small town of Ulysses, Nebraska,” Koch said . “It had nearly a population of under 270 people, so we basically lived in the middle of a cornfield. I fell in love with football and played multiple positions, most notably linebacker, punter and kicker. I want to thank my Seward High School coaches and teammates, especially Coach Greg Welch, for cultivating the passion for playing football that led me … [Read more...] about Ravens’ Sam Koch thanks Nebraska in emotional NFL retirement press conference

"The scenario would be the same. You'll have KL Rahul batting right till the very end, they would have lost three or four wickets and … [Read more...] about IPL 2022 – Needs To Bat “Quicker Rather Than Longer”: Sanjay Manjrekar On KL Rahul’s Knock vs RCB In Eliminator | Cricket News

Duke basketball: Trevor Keels should withdraw from 2022 NBA Draft, per CBS Sports
Duke Blue Devils guard Trevor Keels entered his name into the 2022 NBA Draft, and completed the pre-draft process. Now, Keels has until June 1 to officially decide whether he will proceed with the draft or return to Duke for a sophomore season. Last season, in 36 games and 26 starts, Keels averaged 11.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Prior to Duke, Keels was a 247Sports Composite five-star recruit out of Fairfax (Va.) Paul VI Catholic. He was also the No. 23 ranked overall player and the No. 3 ranked shooting guard in the recruiting class of 2021. In a recent article by CBS Sports, reporter Kyle Boone made the case that Keels would be better off returning to Duke for another season rather than trying his luck in the NBA. “With Keels, my sense is that he is more likely to leave school than not,” Boone wrote . “But my read on his draft prospects is that he'd benefit more by another year in college and potentially reap significant financial … [Read more...] about Duke basketball: Trevor Keels should withdraw from 2022 NBA Draft, per CBS Sports
San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle weighs in on Jimmy Garoppolo vs. Trey Lance
The San Francisco 49ers were widely expected to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason in favor of second-year quarterback Trey Lance . But no deal has come to fruition just yet, and Kyle Shanahan could have a bit of a dilemma on his hands heading into the upcoming season. Will the 49ers go with the talented-but-inexperienced option in Lance, who they traded up to select with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft? Or will it be Garoppolo, the experienced veteran who has helped the 49ers reach the NFC Championship in two of the last three seasons? Superstar tight end George Kittle weighed in on the discussion during a recent interview with Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, laying out what each of the two signal-callers bring to the table. “That’s the million-dollar question, isn’t it?” Kittle said . “That’s one reason I’m glad I’m not the head coach of the 49ers. That’s all on Coach Shanahan. I’ll give you both ways. Jimmy G, awesome in the huddle, great … [Read more...] about San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle weighs in on Jimmy Garoppolo vs. Trey Lance
Brent Venables heralds Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel as ‘ultra-consistent’
First-year Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables found his quarterback through the NCAA transfer portal, landing UCF transfer Dillon Gabriel after he initially pledged to UCLA. And for any questions about Gabriel's ability transition to the Power 5 level, Venables says the display of football Gabriel provided during his first spring in Norman removed any worries his staff had on that front. "Dillon, I thought he had a terrific spring," Venables said Wednesday during a radio interview with KREF Sports. "Ultra-consistent. Really accurate. He makes plays, can improvise and make all the throws. But I just love his leadership and consistency. There's a calmness and consistency that helps you focus on other things. He's the last guy you have to worry about. I certainly don't want to take that for granted. But that for us is a real comfort level where he physically, mentally, spiritually and leadership. "He gets it. He's mature beyond his years. His decision-making is at a … [Read more...] about Brent Venables heralds Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel as ‘ultra-consistent’

Manchester United’s five years of failure examined: How and why the trophies stopped and key factors explored
"The last piece of the puzzle." That is how Jose Mourinho described Manchester United's Europa League final win over Ajax in May 2017. United were, he pointed out, now a club that had won every trophy in the world of football. The victory that night in Stockholm was supposed to be the beginning, not the end. It may have been their third trophy of the season - as Mourinho memorably gesticulated with his fingers - but it had also been what he described as his most difficult season as a manager. United muddled through at times, finishing sixth in the Premier League. But back then even a spluttering version of the red machine seemed capable of churning out silverware. Louis van Gaal had been sacked with the FA Cup plonked right in front of him. United's alarming slump With 2017 the last time Manchester United won a major trophy, they are now on their longest drought in four decades. After victory in the 1977 FA Cup, they had to wait until 1983 for their next triumph … [Read more...] about Manchester United’s five years of failure examined: How and why the trophies stopped and key factors explored
