Bayern ‘six-pack’ special for all of football – Lewandowski
Bayern scraped past CONCACAF champions Tigres UANL 1-0 in Qatar at the Education City stadium to clinch their second Club World Cup title. It marked the sixth trophy Bayern have won in Hansi Flick's tenure, with that list also including last season's Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League and this term's UEFA Super Cup and DFL-Supercup. Sextuple takes Bayern to the top of the mountain, but where do they go now? Lewandowski, who scooped The Best FIFA Men's Player award for 2020, has been integral and played a key part in Bayern's win over Tigres as he forced Nahuel Guzman to flap at a cross, allowing Benjamin Pavard to lash in the decisive goal. "The six-pack is something special, a great story – not only for Bayern Munich, for all of football," Lewandowski told reporters. "The way we played, that will stay for a long, long time." Bayern are the first team since Pep Guardiola's Barcelona, in 2009, to complete a clean sweep of every trophy on offer. … [Read more...] about Bayern ‘six-pack’ special for all of football – Lewandowski
ISL 2020-21: Hyderabad FC vs Kerala Blasters FC: Hyderabad’s ruthless second-half blitz sends Kerala packing
They needed a statement of intent to make their top-four ambitions clear. And Hyderabad FC did just that as they outclassed Kerala Blasters 4-0 in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Tuesday. A brace from Fran Sandaza (58, 63’) and goals from Aridane Santana (86’) and Joao Victor (90’) helped Hyderabad climb to third on the table. The result meant Kerala Blasters are now mathematically out of the playoff race. Kerala were on top for the majority of the opening half, registering four shots on target compared to Hyderabad’s zero. Hyderabad looked livelier towards the end of the first half but it only showed when Joel Chianese shifted from the flanks towards the middle. However, inefficiency in the final third from both sides meant that the scoreline remained goalless at the break. A howler from Kerala keeper Albino Gomes in the 21st minute almost gifted Hyderabad the opener. He made a mess while attempting to clear a long ball before Costa Nhamoinesu … [Read more...] about ISL 2020-21: Hyderabad FC vs Kerala Blasters FC: Hyderabad’s ruthless second-half blitz sends Kerala packing

Australian Open: Fast courts suit Kyrgios ahead of blockbuster against ‘super physical’ Thiem
The eccentric Australian continued to excite at Melbourne Park with a five-set win over Ugo Humbert in the second round, saving two match points. Kyrgios, 25, is into the third round of a grand slam for the 15th time in his career, but it has been a difficult hurdle for him to cross. He is 6-8 in the third round of majors, although three of those wins – and just one loss – have come at the Australian Open. While he has all the weapons, Kyrgios faces third seed Thiem, the US Open champion and last year's runner-up in Melbourne. "He's probably one of the most physical guys on tour. He's an extremely good player. I have actually seen him progress. He's a bit older than I am. I actually saw him in juniors and then I saw him struggle for a couple years, futures, challies, and then to see him get to the top of the game. It's been actually pretty cool to see him develop and finally find what he needs to do to win matches," Kyrgios said about Thiem after overcoming Humbert. "He trains … [Read more...] about Australian Open: Fast courts suit Kyrgios ahead of blockbuster against ‘super physical’ Thiem
