Kapil Dev (434) was the first Indian bowler to attain this feat followed by Anil Kumble (619) and Harbhajan Singh (417). Ashwin is also the quickest Indian bowler to reach the landmark in just 77 Tests. The 34-year-old off-spinner from Tamil Nadu is also the 16th bowler overall to go past the 400-barrier in Test cricket. Ashwin is also the second fastest ever to the 400-mark after Sri Lankan spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan, who ended his career with a world record 800 Test wickets. Muralitharan went past 400 wickets in just 72 Tests. Ashwin came into prominence through the Indian Premier League and initially viewed as a white ball specialist. His early days in Test cricket, especially while playing away from home, was not really encouraging but the offie worked hard on his craft over the years and turned a corner since 2015-16 season, taking a heap of wickets. His outings on pitches abroad too began to improve in this time. Ashwin has always been viewed as an all-rounder who can … [Read more...] about India vs England, 3rd Test: Ashwin bags 400 Test wickets, becomes second fastest bowler in history to the mark

Money matters: Beyond Morris’s IPL windfall
THE IPL POWER by Telford Vice • Published on Share Tweet Chris Morris returns to the Rajasthan Royals, a team he played for in IPL 2015. © BCCI Money doesn't seem to have changed Chris Morris. He was as affable as always in the minutes before an online press conference on Thursday (February 15). Looking into his camera, and the view it afforded onlookers, he quipped: "I've got to do something about my background. It used to be pictures of Faf topless." Asked if he would be up to answering a question in Afrikaans, he replied: "I haven't drunk enough brandy in my life to be able to speak Afrikaans." You might say someone who was bought for almost USD 2.3-million by the Rajasthan Royals in last week's IPL auction could afford to be cheerful. But Morris has been thus inclined since his idea of a dream car was a Volkswagen Citi Golf, which he drove until the Chennai Super Kings paid him USD625,000 in 2013. Rajasthan's … [Read more...] about Money matters: Beyond Morris’s IPL windfall
PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth look to turn the tide at BWF World Tour Finals
World champion and Olympic silver medallist Sindhu, who had won the prestigious title in 2018, has been clubbed in Group 'B' alongside top-ranked Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei and home favourites Ratchanok Intanon and Pornpawee Chochuwong. Sindhu's comeback to international badminton after the coronavirus-induced break was not as good as she would have expected. The Indian, who has been training in London for the last few months, couldn't go the distance after losing a close opening match in Thailand Open, the first of the Asia leg. In the second event last week, Sindhu suffered a demoralising straight game defeat against former world champion Ratchanok in the quarterfinals and she will have to gather herself as she opens her campaign against magician Tzu Ying, who reached the finals in both the Thailand Opens. Former world number one Srikanth, on the other hand, has been clubbed in Group 'B' with Denmark's Anders Antonsen, Chinese Taipei's Wang Tzu Wei and Hong Kong's NG Ka … [Read more...] about PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth look to turn the tide at BWF World Tour Finals
Three things to know: The Lakers, Jazz are in very different places right now
The NBA season is in full swing, and we will be here each weekday with the NBC Sports daily roundup Three Things to Know — everything you might have missed in the Association, every key moment from the night before in one place. 1) The Lakers, Jazz are in very different places right now Anybody following the league closely — including smart and level-headed Lakers fans — saw this result coming. The Jazz are playing as well as anyone in the league right now. Without Anthony Davis and Dennis Schroder , the Lakers had lost three in a row and 4-of-5 coming in, and more than that have just looked tired —mentally and physically — for weeks. Like a team in desperate need of the All-Star break (four more away). The Lakers and Jazz are just in very different places right now, so of course Utah blew the doors off L.A. in a 114-89 win Wednesday . Where these teams are in February doesn’t matter much. What does matter? Where they are in June. The Lakers get it ( via Dave … [Read more...] about Three things to know: The Lakers, Jazz are in very different places right now
Ten 89-rated prospects who could move up further
247Sports completed a first post-National Signing Day sweep of the 2022 class this week. With that, several prospects rated an 89 are knocking on the door of a 90, which would put them in four-star status. Here are ten who have positioned themselves to earn that bump down the line. Antonio Kite - ATH - Anniston (Ala.) Kite was unrated until this update. A standout basketball player, it is easy to see that athleticism on his football tape where he is a two-way impact player at both safety and wide receiver. Alabama, Georgia, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee and more have offered. Quentel Jones - DT - Fort Valley (Ga.) Peach County Jones' tape shows him playing inside, outside with his hand-down and also standing up on the edge. He is an athletic 6-foot-3, 265-pounder with good play speed and get-off. We felt he was a little bit under-offered. but recent additions from Mississippi State and Georgia Tech with existing offers from Arkansas, Tennessee and more have … [Read more...] about Ten 89-rated prospects who could move up further
