Behind Shikhar Dhawan 's cheerful exterior lies an intensely "spiritual man" who has made peace with representing India in only one format. Approaching his 37th birthday, Dhawan has made a pledge to himself. "Till the time I am playing for India, I would like to be an asset and not a liability," Dhawan told PTI in an exclusive interaction after leading India to an ODI series victory in the West Indies. From the start of 2020 till the end of West Indies series, Dhawan has played 22 ODIs and scored 975 runs with 10 half-centuries, the highest by an Indian batter by a distance. "I am a calm, matured person. The performance is a reflection of my experience," Dhawan said when he was reminded of his phenomenal numbers. "My basics have been pretty strong and I have put in a lot of work to improve my technique. Understanding a format is also very important. I understand the dynamics of ODI format and that has helped me a lot," he added when probed further. I would have picked Mohammed Shami in India Squad for Asia Cup, if I was chairman of selectors: Kris Srikkanth
Srikkanth believes the India squad for the tournament, starting August 27, looks a balanced one. While sharing his reaction on India's squad for the Asia Cup Srikkanth said on Star Sports' show 'Follow The Blues', "I think the squad is pretty good but I think we would need one more medium pacer. We are going with one medium pacer short. Two wrist spinners are fine. I feel bad for Axar Patel, who has missed out. I am very happy for Deepak Hooda - he can bowl a bit, he's a good hitter and he's a good striker of the ball. What I like about Deepak Hooda is that he's a good striker of the ball, he's a flirter. Otherwise, this squad is a fantastic squad, only feel bad for Axar Patel. I still believe that he's a good bowling all-rounder, maybe in Australia conditions. I am not going for just the Asia Cup, but yes, this must be a blueprint for the ICC T20 World Cup also." Srikkanth also opined that pacer Mohammed Shami should have been part of the Team India squad for the team looks a … [Read more...] about I would have picked Mohammed Shami in India Squad for Asia Cup, if I was chairman of selectors: Kris Srikkanth
Chess Olympiad 2022: Uzbekistan kids clinch gold; Armenia gets silver, while India B snatch bronze
Undefeated over the eleven rounds, the team coached by GM Ivan Sokolov edged out Armenia on tiebreak, automatically becoming national heroes. The young Uzbek team was led by 17-year-old Nodirbek Abdusattorov, who last Christmas dethroned Magnus Carlsen as the World Rapid Chess Champion. The young Uzbek star had an excellent performance in Chennai, scoring 7 victories (five of them consecutive), 3 draws, and only one loss. 20-year-old Nodirbek Yakubboev, 16-year-old Javokhir Sindarov, and 20-year-old Shamsiddin Vokhidov are the other three juniors in the team, that only featured one player in his late twenties: the "veteran" of the team, Jahongir Vakhidov, at 27. This huge achievement by the young Uzbek prodigies comes just at the right moment, as Tashkent was confirmed a few days ago as the venue for the 2026 edition of the Chess … [Read more...] about Chess Olympiad 2022: Uzbekistan kids clinch gold; Armenia gets silver, while India B snatch bronze

A team, comprising four dangerous debutants-Gukesh, Raunak Sadhwani, Nihal Sarin, and R Praggnanandhaa, shocked the top-seeded and strong contender for the title, USA comfortably by a 3-1 score in the open section eighth-round encounter. Extending his sensational unbeaten run at the prestigious tournament, the 16-year-old Gukesh upstaged the former World Championship Challenger Fabiano Caruana in a critical game on the top board. This was one of the most impressive debuts in the history of the Olympiad. Only the former world champion Vladimir Kramnik set a record of 8.5/9 in 1992, clocking a 2958 rating performance. All the four encounters ended in deadlock and India A still continues to be in charge of the sole lead with 15 points while Georgia has inched closes with 14 points. Ukraine, Poland, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, and Mongolia are bunched together in the third spot with 13 points each. India C Team, seeded 16th, were no match for fourth-seeded Poland and went down 1-3. Commonwealth Games 2022: Highs and lows of India
Going into Birmingham 2022, slipping out of the usual top-five was seen as a real possibility in absence of shooting, but phenomenal success in athletics and lawn bowls propelled India to a commendable fourth-place finish. About 25 per cent of India's 66 medals came from the shooting range in the previous edition held at Gold Coast, Australia, and not many believed that India will be able to touch even 50. But the country ended up with 61, courtesy unprecedented success in track and field events that delivered eight medals. As the Games concluded, with PTI inputs, myKhel.com looks at some of the highs and lows for India at Birmingham 2022. Athletics Eldhose Paul and Abdullah Aboobacker's rare 1-2 finish in triple jump will be cherished for long.
