August 18, 2022 by sports.ndtv.com Leave a Comment

The UK jury in the rape trial of French footballer Benjamin Mendy was on Wednesday told by one of his accusers how she had shouted 'stop' while trying to fight him off. The 32-year-old woman's recorded interview was played at Chester Crown Court in north-west England. She recalled how the 28-year-old Manchester City player, wearing just boxer shorts, had walked in on her having a shower at his house, where she had stayed the night with one of his friends. "I said, 'You need to leave'," she recalled. "I kept pushing him away, he kept grabbing me back. I just kept trying to wriggle out. "He got very close but I pushed him away as much as I could," she added. The woman, the first of seven accusers to give evidence in his trial, said in the interview that she had considered screaming, but thought "there's no point as he's in his own territory." She had stayed the night at Mendy's home in the village of Mottram St Andrew in rural Cheshire with one of the footballer's … [Read more...] about “Kept Pushing Him Away, He Kept Grabbing Me Back,” Manchester City Player Benjamin Mendy’s Rape Accuser Tells Court | Football News

Ohio State football: Buckeyes defense ‘should be better’ this season, Joel Klatt says

August 16, 2022 by 247sports.com Leave a Comment

The Ohio State Buckeyes had an explosive offense last season, but defensive woes were an Achilles heel. And in order to return to the College Football Playoff after missing out a year ago, the Buckeyes must rectify that weakness. College football analyst Joel Klatt shared his thoughts on where Ohio State stands on the defensive side of the ball, saying that there should be improvement. “I think defensively they have — it’s taken them some time to try to find their identity and I think they’re still on that path," Klatt said as a guest on The Herd . "Remember now, they’ve got a new defensive coordinator, Jim Knowles, he comes from Oklahoma State and now he’s going to be Ryan Day’s new defensive coordinator at Ohio State. His first year, I thought he made one of the best hires in all of college football before he had ever coached a game. What he did with Jeff Hafley and that defense — granted, they had great players — but they were physical, they were stout, they were really good … [Read more...] about Ohio State football: Buckeyes defense ‘should be better’ this season, Joel Klatt says

Manchester United Legend Ryan Giggs Cites Disciplinary Record In Assault Trial | Football News

August 17, 2022 by sports.ndtv.com Leave a Comment

Former Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs , on trial for assaulting and coercively controlling an ex-girlfriend, told a UK court Wednesday that his record of one sending off in a 24-year career showed he was not prone to violence. Taking the stand at Manchester Crown Court for the second day running, the former United and Wales forward broke down in tears as he described spending a night in the cells as the "worst experience of my life". Giggs denies physically assaulting former partner, PR agent Kate Greville, and her sister nearly two years ago. He also denies controlling Greville during their rocky years-long relationship. Giggs claims that injuries sustained by Greville were an accidental result of a three-way tussle between her and her sister over a mobile phone. The former winger admitted he "may have caught her and her sister", but that his playing career showed he was not violent. He told the court it was "part and parcel" to be verbally abused and provoked on … [Read more...] about Manchester United Legend Ryan Giggs Cites Disciplinary Record In Assault Trial | Football News

A product of the Washington Huskies, Harris’ injury came on the second play in what was Cleveland’s preseason opener. “Browns’ starting center Nick Harris suffered a likely season-ending knee injury on the second play of Friday night’s preseason game vs. the Jaguars, per Stefanski,” Schefter wrote . “Harris will get a second opinion to confirm injury and diagnosis." Harris was originally drafted in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and he was heading into his first season as the starter. He’d previously only started two games, one being on Christmas against the Green Bay Packers. August 16, 2022 by 247sports.com Leave a Comment

As he did for the 2011 college football season when transferring to Wisconsin from NC State and winning the inaugural Big Ten Championship Game, Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson is looking to elevate his new squad in Year 1 after coming over in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks this spring. Wilson spent one season at Wisconsin and became a Big Ten champion before playing his final collegiate game in the Rose Bowl. “This is Wisconsin all over again,” a source familiar with Wilson’s career said, via ProFootballTalk. During that season, Wilson had a completion rate of 72.8% and passed for 3,175 yards with 33 touchdowns to just four interceptions, which gave him an efficiency rating of 191.8. Prior to the transfer, Wilson was a star at NC State, but the production was not as great. Wilson threw 76 touchdown passes to 26 interceptions in his three seasons with the Wolfpack. Wilson’s work ethic has been on display since his arrival in Denver, attracting the … [Read more...] about Russell Wilson to Denver Broncos ‘is Wisconsin all over again,’ source tells NFL insider

August 16, 2022 by 247sports.com Leave a Comment

The first Drew Lock -related update Tuesday came from Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll , who announced the former Missouri Tigers quarterback would start the team's second preseason game. Then it was revealed that Lock tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Thursday game's against the Chicago Bears. After announcing Lock would start over Geno Smith , who started Seattle's preseason opener last week, Carroll explained that rotating the starting quarterback was a pre-planned decision. "We had planned well back before the offseason even started to get to this game, the second game, Geno would be the starter in (the mock game) at Lumen and the opening game, then we would go with Drew in the second game," Carroll said. "We're trying to follow that if we can. This was part the plan. Regardless of what happened, we were going to Drew a chance to start a game to see what happens. Fortunately, he has played really well, and he deserves a shot to play, just like … [Read more...] about Seattle Seahawks QB Drew Lock positive for COVID-19, ruled out for preseason game against Bears

Kenneth Walker III’s ‘hernia’ injury puts Seahawks rookie RB’s status for Week 1 in question

August 17, 2022 by 247sports.com Leave a Comment

The Seattle Seahawks used the No. 41 overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft to select running back Kenneth Walker III out of Michigan State. Walker figures to see immediate playing time alongside Rashaad Penny after the sudden retirement of Chris Carson this offseason. However, Walker missed practice Tuesday, which Seahawks coach Pete Carroll addressed. “Ken’s got a little hernia thing that he’s working on and we’ve got to get through that,” Carroll said, via ESPN’s Brady Henderson . “So I don’t know what to tell you yet, but it’s something that we can attend to and all that. “We’ve just got to make sure that he’s OK by the opener is what we’re shooting for.” Walker blossomed into a star in 2021 for the Spartans and, at times, looked like a potential Heisman Trophy winner. He didn’t capture the award despite compiling 1,636 yards on 263 carries with 18 touchdowns. Before starring for Michigan State, Walker played at Wake Forest. USA TODAY Sports Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock won’t be starting on Thursday night , after all. The Seahawks have announced that Lock has tested positive for COVID . He’ll miss the preseason game against the Bears. The news comes after Lock took first-team reps in practice on Thursday, and after coach Pete Carroll announced that Lock will get the start in the team’s only home preseason game of 2022. Carroll also said that Geno Smith remains the No. 1 guy on the depth chart. The inability of Lock to play on Thursday night will serve only to enhance Smith’s status, since he’ll now get the start. Unless Smith ends up with COVID, too. After all, he was surely exposed to Lock, possibly at a time when Lock was contagious. … [Read more...] about Drew Lock tests positive for COVID – ProFootballTalk
