(Reuters) - Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is expecting a much closer Premier League title race this season compared to the last campaign. Defending champions City romped to the title in record-breaking fashion under Guardiola last season, finishing 19 points clear of second-placed Manchester United. But with the top five teams separated by two points after the first nine games, Guardiola says his league leaders will have a far tougher fight on their hands to defend their title this season. "I don't have doubt about that. Two points difference in five, six teams. It's strong," Guardiola told a news conference on Friday. City, who are top on goal difference ahead of Liverpool, face fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Monday and Guardiola is wary of the tactical surprises his opposite number Mauricio Pochettino is capable of springing. "Spurs play with five at the back sometimes, sometimes diamond, sometimes 4-2-3-1. They can use it and change again," Guardiola added. … [Read more...] about Manchester City’s Guardiola expects close Premier League title race

reds on the rise Reds overcame a stubborn Crystal Palace side at Selhurst Park following their 4-0 opening day win over West Ham LIVERPOOL’S odds of lifting the Premier League title are shorter than they have ever been in recent years. The Reds’ price of becoming champions has been cut to 3/1 by the bookies after just two games following last night’s 2-0 victory away to Crystal Palace. City are clear favourites to win the title but Liverpool have proved they have the beating of Pep Guardiola’s men, winning three of their four meetings last season. Jurgen Klopp’s side appear to have ironed out their defensive issues which have held them back in the past after keeping clean sheets in their opening two games. This has partly been down to heavy investment, which has seen the arrivals of Virgil van Dijk for £75million and goalkeeper Allison for £67m. Last night James Milner scored from the spot to send Liverpool on their way to victory … [Read more...] about Liverpool’s odds of winning Premier League title slashed to 3/1 after dominant start to new season
