When EJ Liddell committed to Ohio State in October of 2018, he hoped Chris Holtmann and the Buckeyes would develop him into an NBA player. After three successful seasons in Columbus, the forward elected it was time to move on to the NBA. On Thursday night, Liddell's dreams were realized, just a little later than he expected. Despite being projected as a former first-round pick, he former Scarlet and Gray star was selected by the New Orleans Pelicans with the 11th pick of the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft, 41st overall. Liddell becomes the 10th former Ohio State player to be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft this century, following former teammate Malaki Branham , who was taken by the San Antonio Spurs 21 picks earlier in this year's draft. Ex-Ohio State forward EJ Liddell was selected with the No. 41 overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Pelicans. Liddell, however, was widely projected as a first-round pick leading up to the draft. NBA scout Michael VandeGarde recently explained why Liddel went later than expected. “(He’s) not a proven shooter, and what is his real position for the NBA? Getty Images The Portland Trail Blazers will waive veteran point guard Eric Bledsoe before his contract becomes fully guaranteed, according to Shams Charania . Bledsoe will now become an unrestricted free agent and is expected to draw interest from multiple teams. Days before the deadline last season, the Blazers traded Norman Powell and Robert Covington to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Bledsoe, Justise Winslow , Keon Johnson and a future second-round pick. Bledsoe was ruled out for the season with an Achilles tendon injury shortly after his arrival in Portland, however, and never played a game with the team. The Blazers were in full tank mode at the end of last season, so it was no surprise that they kept Bledsoe on the bench and eventually shut him down. Even Laine’s sense of fashion tends to break the mold . Getty Images The Los Angeles Lakers are signing former Washington Wizards center Thomas Bryant to a one-year deal, according to Yahoo's Chris Haynes . Bryant will have a chance to win the starting center job, according to Haynes, and his only competition, assuming Anthony Davis is playing most of his minutes at power forward, is Damian Jones , whom the Lakers signed away from the Sacramento Kings . Both Lakers centers are now in their second stints with the team. Jones spent a brief period in Los Angeles during the 2020-21 season, but left for Sacramento after his 10-day contracts expired. Bryant was a second-round pick of the Lakers in 2017, but was waived after his rookie year. He wound up thriving as a member of the Washington Wizards. Across his first 118 games as a Wizard, he averaged 11.6 points on 60 percent shooting from the field and just under 37 percent from behind the arc, making him one of the more efficient low-usage big men in basketball. USATSI Baker Mayfield has himself a new home in the NFL after the Panthers struck a deal with the Browns on Wednesday that'll send the former No. 1 overall pick to Carolina. Cleveland receives a conditional fifth-round pick for Mayfield, while also eating a chunk of the quarterback's salary for the 2022 season. It's all but certain that Mayfield will be the Panthers' starter to begin the year and that's where the true spice to this trade is found. As fate would have it, the Panthers will open up the regular season hosting the Cleveland Browns at Bank of America Stadium in Week 1. So, Mayfield's first official game in a Panthers uniform is set to be against the club that decided to move off of him this offseason. And he'll be a home dog when he does it. According to the odds at Caesars Sportsbook, the Browns re-opened as a -1 (-110) road favorite against the Panthers following this Mayfield trade.
