Contract between Kobe Bryant estate, Nike expires

· April 20, 2021 ·

Since 2003, Kobe Bryant has been one of the biggest names in the Nike basketball shoe universe (the first part of his career he played in Adidas, something a lot of people forget). Nike released 11 signature Kobe’s during his playing days and more after his retirement — more players wear Kobes now than ever before. However, the relationship between Nike and Kobe Bryant — and his estate — is over. Kobe had signed a five-year extension with the company in 2016, and as it was set to expire Nike and the Bryant estate, led by his widow Vanessa, could not reach agreement a new deal. Complex broke the news and both sides confirmed it with statements. “Kobe Bryant was an important part of Nike’s deep connection to consumers,” Nike said in its statement. “He pushed us and made everyone around him better. Though our contractual relationship has ended, he remains a deeply loved member of the Nike family.” Vanessa Bryant released this statement to ESPN : “Kobe and Nike have made … [Read more...] about Contract between Kobe Bryant estate, Nike expires

With overseas fans barred from Olympics, new moms ask: what about my baby?

· April 20, 2021 ·

Since giving birth in May 2020, U.S. women’s soccer star Alex Morgan has been able to bring her daughter Charlie on the road. “It’s important to allow mothers the option to have their kids with them while they compete. I’ve been lucky to be able to do that every single camp,” Morgan said in a U.S. soccer media call earlier this month. But Morgan is currently unclear on whether Charlie will be able to join her at this summer’s Tokyo Olympics. In March, it was announced that – due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic – overseas spectators won’t be allowed to travel to Japan for the Games. “We share the disappointment of all enthusiastic Olympic fans from around the world, and of course the families and friends of the athletes, who were planning to come to the Games,” International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach said in a press release . While Morgan says she understands the decision, she is uncertain about what it will mean for her family given their specific … [Read more...] about With overseas fans barred from Olympics, new moms ask: what about my baby?

Ed Woodward reportedly resigns from Manchester United

· April 20, 2021 ·

The poorly-received and possibly short-lived European Super League caused a lot of grief for a large faction of Manchester United supporters, but the idea’s unpopularity may’ve caused the exit of one of the club’s lightning rods. Ed Woodward has reportedly resigned as executive vice chairman of Manchester United , according to multiple reports, and will leave the club at the end of the year. He was reportedly expected to leave on Dec. 31 but the announcement “has been brought forward” due to the colossal consternation caused by the announcement that United was one of 12 teams to commit to the ESL. [ MORE: How to watch PL in the USA ] Woodward, 49, joined United when he helped negotiate the Glazer family’s takeover of the club in 2005. He quickly became a massive piece of the club, running the commercial side of the club and being named to the board of directors in 2012. But he’s become increasingly vilified in recent years as the club has not adopted a director of … [Read more...] about Ed Woodward reportedly resigns from Manchester United

Reggie Jackson tries to steady Thunder without Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook

· November 13, 2014 ·

BOSTON – Reggie Jackson is the last player remaining in the Thunder’s locker room, and the team’s final bus is scheduled to leave in a few minutes. He frantically throws items into his shaving kit. He grabs his hoodie, clumsily knocking its hanger onto the floor. Then, he reaches for the top shelf of his locker. “Got my baby,” Jackson said as he clutches his basketball. Growing up, basketball helped Jackson, the son of an Air Force officer, find his way while moving between Italy, England, North Dakota, Georgia, Florida and Colorado. Now, those frequent moves are helping Jackson – at one of the NBA’s most interesting crossroads – find his way in basketball. Jackson was the only player last season to start 40 games and come off the bench in 40 games, including the playoffs, but that understates the volatility of his role. He has played point guard shooting guard. He has played with Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant and without those two stars. He has been asked to lead and … [Read more...] about Reggie Jackson tries to steady Thunder without Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook
