Getty Images Arsenal's visit to Manchester City serves as the highlight of the FA Cup fourth round weekend but in truth it may serve as little more than an appetizer for their tussle at the top of the Premier League. The Gunners hold a five-point lead over Pep Guardiola's side, who they will face at the Emirates Stadium on Feb. 15, and a win in the cup could give them the belief to hold out at the top of the table. City have not beaten Arsenal, the most successful club in the competition's history, in the FA Cup since 1904 and were beaten 2-0 in the 2020 semifinal. However, that was a rare victory for Mikel Arteta over his former boss. Guardiola has not lost a Premier League meeting with Arsenal. LOOK: College basketball game stopped after fake delivery man walks onto court in apparent prank
A food delivery gone wrong that briefly caused a stoppage in Wednesday night's Loyola Chicago vs. Duquesne game may not have been the accidental moment of hilarity it initially appeared. A delivery man, who walked right onto the court and into the center of action almost as if he was a part of the team, nearly collided with players in the corner as he was seemingly preparing to deliver to a customer. On its face, it appeared that a delivery man had an oopsie captured on live television that briefly disrupted a Division I game in the Atlantic 10. Even the announcers were taken aback. "Somebody came on the floor on the far side," said the TV commentary team . "I think that's an Uber Eats sticker [on the bag]. Uber Eats, yes! Was he going to deliver McDonald's to someone on the court?" Multiple people inside the building in Pittsburgh on hand for the game tweeted on social media that, indeed, it was an Uber Eats delivery person. The commentary is excellent hahaha … [Read more...] about LOOK: College basketball game stopped after fake delivery man walks onto court in apparent prank
2023 NFL Pro Bowl Games testing expanded skills competition, could be ‘bigger and better’ next season
USATSI The 2023 NFL Pro Bowl Games will be the first of its kind, presenting a new spin on the league's annual all-star game. Replacing a full-contact exhibition with an expanded skills competition and flag football tournament, the February showcase could ultimately also be a stepping stone to even bigger changes down the road. When the NFL first announced details for the Pro Bowl Games in a memo to league personnel, it referred to the event as the "Replacement Event," suggesting the new format is merely a trial run. That is, in fact, the case, according to Anthony Storm, senior vice president of A. Smith & Co. Productions, which is behind this year's Pro Bowl Games. "I don't know what the NFL's future plans are," Storm tells CBS Sports, "but I know this is a great opportunity for us to grow the skills competition. And I know flag football is a big initiative over there. So I think there's a lot of room for growth. This is the first time we're expanding it into a … [Read more...] about 2023 NFL Pro Bowl Games testing expanded skills competition, could be ‘bigger and better’ next season
Hope Powell: Defying Mum to play football, building England Women and representing her communities
Hope Powell has revealed how she defied her Mum to play football, how she built England Women and the importance of representing her communities. Powell is perhaps best known for her time as a coach with the Lionesses, Team GB and, more recently, with Brighton. But she was also an experienced player herself, amassing over 60 England caps and a raft of other domestic accolades. However, growing up in West Indian culture in south London in the 60s and 70s, it was not the most conventional career path for a girl - and Powell's mother even tried to dissuade her from football. "When I was growing up and playing on the estate, I honestly thought I was the only girl that played," she told Jess Creighton on Inside the WSL. Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player This week's episode of Inside The WSL takes a dive into the life of Hope Powell - one of the most influential figures in the game. Steelers president Art Rooney II sidesteps question regarding Mike Tomlin’s future
USA Today Art Rooney II discussed a variety of topics with Steelers beat writers on Thursday, ranging from the decision to retain offensive coordinator Matt Canada (largely because of Kenny Pickett and the growth that occurred late in the season) and his thoughts on future conference title games being played on neutral sites (he's against it). The Steelers president would not, however, discuss a possible contract extension for Mike Tomlin, who in the past has typically received an extension with two years left on his deal. Tomlin, who recently concluded his 16th season as the Steelers head coach, is signed through the 2024 season. "I don't like to speculate on Coach's contract," Rooney said , via Joe Rutter of the Tribune-Review . "We'll see." Tomlin, 50, is the second-longest tenured head coach in Steelers history. Only Hall of Fame coach Chuck Noll has coached more games for the Steelers than Tomlin, who this past season extended his NFL record of 16 straight … [Read more...] about Steelers president Art Rooney II sidesteps question regarding Mike Tomlin’s future
Ukrainian Olympian unhappy with IOC’s push to include Russian athletes in international competitions
Getty Images The International Olympic Committee is considering allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to international competitions. Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych is not happy about it. Heraskevych, 24, said that allowing them to compete would send a message that the invasion of Ukraine is not as serious as it seems. "They (Russians) will turn on the TV and see competitions. And there in these competitions, Russian athletes are competing with, I don't know like USA athletes, with Chinese athletes, with Korean athletes and the Russian people think, 'yeah, everything is good. So, we are part of the world community...our country isn't doing anything wrong'," Hersakvych told Reuters this week . "And the Russian country is doing the wrong thing. It's not right to invade another country and kill people." This is far from the first time Heraskevych expressed his opinion on if Russian athletes should be banned from all sports until the war is over. … [Read more...] about Ukrainian Olympian unhappy with IOC’s push to include Russian athletes in international competitions
