I think the girls clearly are quite excited to get on the field and start putting our best performances" - Mithali Raj © Getty With India set to return to international cricket after almost a year, with the upcoming five-match ODI series against South Africa in Lucknow, Mithali Raj has uttered similar words as that of her deputy, stating that the team "isn't rusty". The Indian skipper, who has retired from T20Is, hasn't played any international cricket since November 2019 but is confident that the team will be ready for the challenge posed by Sune Luus and Co, given the three training sessions they have had since their arrival at the venue. While overcoming injury, Louisville tight end Marshon Ford continues to lead
Tight end Marshon Ford continues to shine for Louisville. While continuing to overcome a shoulder injury that has limited him some during spring practice, the local product from Ballard High School is helping his position group improve. While continuing to rehab, Ford has been cleared to participate in practice and is leading by action and words. “Marshon has been my assistant coach,” tight ends coach Stu Holt said. “He's been helping out with those guys and now he's getting back. He's actually doing quite a bit. He's way ahead in his performance and it's been great, because, you hate him not being able to go but at the same time, you get some young guys a lot of reps and that's been fun to see.” An injury sidelined him for the Syracuse game last fall, but he appeared in 10 outings, finishing with 25 catches for 309 yards and six scores. His six touchdowns ranked second among all tight ends in the ACC. “I've been working, getting better,” Ford said, adding that he’s … [Read more...] about While overcoming injury, Louisville tight end Marshon Ford continues to lead
Women’s cricket: India’s WC preparation to finally begin with home series against South Africa
While the South Africans come into the series fresh from their home rubber against Pakistan last month, the Indians last played on March 8, 2020 when they lost to Australia in the T20 World Cup final. The quarantine protocol in COVID times have given only two days of nets to both the teams, making it tougher for the players to be at their best from the word go. It can be safely said that the Indians have fallen behind in their World Cup preparation compared to the likes of England, New Zealand and Australia, who have played more regularly amid the pandemic. The new selection committee has come in with its own vision and picked six uncapped players for the eight match contest also comprising three T20s, leaving out senior players like Shikha Pandey, Taniya Bhatia and Veda Krishnamurthy. The non- selection of T20 star Shafali Verma for the ODIs has also raised a few eyebrows. Harmanpreet Kaur, who is Mithali Raj's deputy in ODIs and T20 captain, insisted that rustiness will not … [Read more...] about Women’s cricket: India’s WC preparation to finally begin with home series against South Africa
Wayne Gretzky delivers emotional eulogy at father’s funeral
BRANTFORD, Ontario (AP) — Walter Gretzky’s family thought the end was coming quickly in the middle of February. The father of hockey’s greatest player had suffered a serious hip injury and, after battling Parkinson’s disease and other health issues in recent years, his time — something Walter was always willing to give both friends and strangers — appeared to be running short. “But he had a love for life and he didn’t want to leave,” Wayne Gretzky said during an emotional eulogy Saturday. “We were 21 days sitting with him and just enjoying life. We got a chance and opportunity to tell stories.” And Walter Gretzky’s life was full of them. Known as Canada’s hockey dad, Walter Gretzky died Thursday at age 82. His death prompted an avalanche of tributes for a genuine, approachable, authentic person who nurtured Wayne’s incredible talents on the family’s famed backyard rink in Brantford, but also never forgot where he came from. “He was a remarkable man who loved life, loved … [Read more...] about Wayne Gretzky delivers emotional eulogy at father’s funeral
Clemson ‘planning’ for full capacity Death Valley in fall
In a letter intended for the Tigers community on Friday, Clemson university president Jim Clements said that Clemson is "planning" to have a full capacity Death Valley this fall for home football games. "Registration for fall classes begins April 12 and students will notice that almost all courses are being offered in the traditional, in-person mode," Clements wrote. "Likewise, we’re also planning for a normal level of campus activity starting in the fall, including full capacity for Tigers football games." Last year, Clemson operated with 23 percent capacity at football games, which allowed for roughly 16,000 fans instead of the normal 81,500. There hasn't been word yet on what the capacity will be for the Saturday, April 3 spring game in Memorial Stadium. The full release from Clements is below. As we approach spring break, signs of increased activity abound across the University. More students are coming to campus for instruction, we’re seeing a significant … [Read more...] about Clemson ‘planning’ for full capacity Death Valley in fall
