Even though the Edmonton Oilers entered Tuesday’s game in a tie for first place in the Pacific Division there are plenty of reasons to be concerned about what they are actually capable of this season. They are still the most top-heavy team in the league, relying almost entirely on one line for offense. They have also been playing below .500 hockey for the better part of the past two months, and after Tuesday’s 6-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes have won just 11 of their past 25 games. Not great! This most recent loss also included a rather embarrassing play as goalie Mikko Koskinen was faked out by Hurricanes defenseman Dougie Hamilton and allowed a goal from the center red line. As Hamilton controlled the puck at the red line off of a face-off win, he made it look like he was going to simply dump the puck into the corner. That resulted in Koskinen starting to leave the net so he could cut off the dump-in and hopefully make a play to gain possession for his team. How Jeremy Pruitt voted in final Coaches Poll
Having played several of the SEC's best this season, Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt had a first-hand look at what it takes to be elite. With that, there was a couple noticeable surprises in his power rankings following this week's public release of every coach's final Coaches Poll ballot following conference championship weekend, via USA Today. Pruitt is one of the only coaches that ranked unbeaten Clemson, the defending national champions, No. 1 ahead of LSU and Ohio State. Pruitt included five SEC teams in his final poll, led by league champion LSU at No. 2 and Georgia at No. 5. Two teams the Vols lost to this season, Alabama and Florida, were ranked Nos. 9 and 10, respectively. Three-loss Auburn rounded out Pruitt's SEC picks at No. 12. Like LSU coach Ed Orgeron's final ballot, Pruitt doesn't appear to be a big believer in 10-win Big Ten teams Minnesota and Penn State. He too ranked the Golden Gophers and Nittany Lions in the No. 14 and 15 spots. And then there's Michigan, who the … [Read more...] about How Jeremy Pruitt voted in final Coaches Poll

Race for No. 1 pick in 2020 NFL Draft: How Eli Manning can shake up the draft
Manning will play a small role in who could end up with the first overall pick by Bryan DeArdo @BryanDeArdo Dec 12, 2019 at 7:17 am ET • 5 min read The last thing on Eli Manning's mind is how his performance Sunday against the Dolphins could alter the 2020 NFL Draft. Manning, who started his first game in nearly three months in Monday night's overtime loss to the Eagles, is slated to receive another start this Sunday with rookie quarterback Daniel Jones still dealing with an ankle injury. Manning enjoyed a fast start in Monday's loss to the Eagles, throwing a pair of first half touchdown passes while helping the Giants build a 17-3 lead. New York was unable to add to their lead in the second half, however, as the Eagles scored the game's final 23 points to pull off the come-from-behind victory. With the loss, New York (2-11) remained ahead of the Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins for the No. 2 overall pick if the NFL Draft was … [Read more...] about Race for No. 1 pick in 2020 NFL Draft: How Eli Manning can shake up the draft
