Biggest 2022 NFL training camp battles involving rookies: Chris Carson, Zach Ertz among vets to be pushed
imagn's Patrick Breen NFL teams often target positions in the draft to replace veterans as a cost-cutting measure. Those plans can take a few years to materialize and that leads to a healthy competition in training camp. Eagles drafted two young players (center Cam Jurgens and defensive tackle Jordan Davis ) who are talented enough to earn longer looks, but the two veterans ahead of them -- Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox , respectively -- have so many skins on the wall that it is difficult to envision Philadelphia not starting them. It is more likely that Cox starts and splits snaps with Davis. Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III vs. Seattle's running backs Rashaad Penny has played in 10 games or less each of the past three seasons. When available, he did not look like the player who enticed the team to use a first-round selection on his talents. Chris Carson has missed 17 games over the past two seasons. Both are entering the final year on their contract. The … [Read more...] about Biggest 2022 NFL training camp battles involving rookies: Chris Carson, Zach Ertz among vets to be pushed

NBA free agency: Lakers to sign Thomas Bryant to compete for starting center job, per report
Getty Images The Los Angeles Lakers are signing former Washington Wizards center Thomas Bryant to a one-year deal, according to Yahoo's Chris Haynes . Bryant will have a chance to win the starting center job, according to Haynes, and his only competition, assuming Anthony Davis is playing most of his minutes at power forward, is Damian Jones , whom the Lakers signed away from the Sacramento Kings . Both Lakers centers are now in their second stints with the team. Jones spent a brief period in Los Angeles during the 2020-21 season, but left for Sacramento after his 10-day contracts expired. Bryant was a second-round pick of the Lakers in 2017, but was waived after his rookie year. He wound up thriving as a member of the Washington Wizards. Across his first 118 games as a Wizard, he averaged 11.6 points on 60 percent shooting from the field and just under 37 percent from behind the arc, making him one of the more efficient low-usage big men in basketball. Alabama in top six for Top100 CB Malik Muhammad
“Coach (Nick) Saban and Coach T-Rob (Travaris Robinson) told me to come back up for the spring game,” Muhammad said of what prompted him to take another visit so soon. Muhammad was also on campus in January for Junior Day. This time around he got a little taste of the game-day atmosphere. “It was good,” he said. “I got to watch the spring game, watch the team, see what they were working with on both sides of the ball. They looked pretty good.” Spending an extended amount of time on campus lately, Muhammad says a few things stand out. “Facilities are nice and the way they take care of you,” he said. “Then the coaches, too.” Robinson has been a good addition for the Tide in terms of Muhammad’s interest in the program. “He was recruiting me at Miami also, so we’re straight,” he said. “He’s a good coach. And he knows his stuff at the defensive back position.” Nick Saban had high praise for Muhammad as well. “He was mainly telling me I had an … [Read more...] about Alabama in top six for Top100 CB Malik Muhammad
