The UK jury in the rape trial of French footballer Benjamin Mendy was on Wednesday told by one of his accusers how she had shouted 'stop' while trying to fight him off. The 32-year-old woman's recorded interview was played at Chester Crown Court in north-west England. She recalled how the 28-year-old Manchester City player, wearing just boxer shorts, had walked in on her having a shower at his house, where she had stayed the night with one of his friends. "I said, 'You need to leave'," she recalled. "I kept pushing him away, he kept grabbing me back. I just kept trying to wriggle out. "He got very close but I pushed him away as much as I could," she added. The woman, the first of seven accusers to give evidence in his trial, said in the interview that she had considered screaming, but thought "there's no point as he's in his own territory." She had stayed the night at Mendy's home in the village of Mottram St Andrew in rural Cheshire with one of the footballer's … [Read more...] about “Kept Pushing Him Away, He Kept Grabbing Me Back,” Manchester City Player Benjamin Mendy’s Rape Accuser Tells Court | Football News

Ohio State football: Buckeyes defense ‘should be better’ this season, Joel Klatt says
The Ohio State Buckeyes had an explosive offense last season, but defensive woes were an Achilles heel. And in order to return to the College Football Playoff after missing out a year ago, the Buckeyes must rectify that weakness. College football analyst Joel Klatt shared his thoughts on where Ohio State stands on the defensive side of the ball, saying that there should be improvement. “I think defensively they have — it’s taken them some time to try to find their identity and I think they’re still on that path," Klatt said as a guest on The Herd . "Remember now, they’ve got a new defensive coordinator, Jim Knowles, he comes from Oklahoma State and now he’s going to be Ryan Day’s new defensive coordinator at Ohio State. His first year, I thought he made one of the best hires in all of college football before he had ever coached a game. What he did with Jeff Hafley and that defense — granted, they had great players — but they were physical, they were stout, they were really good … [Read more...] about Ohio State football: Buckeyes defense ‘should be better’ this season, Joel Klatt says
Manchester United Legend Ryan Giggs Cites Disciplinary Record In Assault Trial | Football News
Former Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs , on trial for assaulting and coercively controlling an ex-girlfriend, told a UK court Wednesday that his record of one sending off in a 24-year career showed he was not prone to violence. Taking the stand at Manchester Crown Court for the second day running, the former United and Wales forward broke down in tears as he described spending a night in the cells as the "worst experience of my life". Giggs denies physically assaulting former partner, PR agent Kate Greville, and her sister nearly two years ago. He also denies controlling Greville during their rocky years-long relationship. Giggs claims that injuries sustained by Greville were an accidental result of a three-way tussle between her and her sister over a mobile phone. The former winger admitted he "may have caught her and her sister", but that his playing career showed he was not violent. He told the court it was "part and parcel" to be verbally abused and provoked on … [Read more...] about Manchester United Legend Ryan Giggs Cites Disciplinary Record In Assault Trial | Football News

Motivation, focus never an issue for Will Anderson Jr., the 2022 CBS Sports Preseason Player of the Year
Graphic by Keytron Jordan HAMPTON, Georgia -- In the beginning, it was about the raw talent for Will Anderson Jr . A teenage edge rusher from an Atlanta suburb, Anderson was a Porsche without brake lights. It didn't matter if the kid couldn't decipher a bull rush from a speed rush. He was a wind-up toy who never wound down. Forget about technique ... that could come later. In that beginning, it was first about making it through a Dutchtown High School practice. Anderson's defensive coordinator, Will Rogers, remembers the prize defender lining up against the offense in drills. "We had to take him out," said Rogers, who was at Dutchtown for Anderson's entire high school career. "We couldn't get anything done [offensively]. I hear they're doing the same thing at Alabama . They've got to get his butt out of there." There is no official word on Anderson's impact at Alabama practices. They are mostly held out of sight of prying eyes. There is enough proof on Saturdays, … [Read more...] about Motivation, focus never an issue for Will Anderson Jr., the 2022 CBS Sports Preseason Player of the Year
Chelsea board member Barbara Charone opens up on representing the fans: ‘The expectation is always to win’
Eddie Mulholland Barbara Charone has spent over 40-years working in the music industry rubbing shoulders with the likes of Madonna, Rod Stewart, Prince and Keith Richards. But it's Chelsea footballers who really give her the butterflies with her favorites including Ruud Gullit, Gianfranco Zola, Frank Lampard and Mason Mount. "It's funny, I meet famous people all the time and take it in my stride. But with footballers I'm a little bit star struck," said Charone, who joined Chelsea's board in June following the purchase of the club by an American consortium led by Los Angeles Dodgers minority owner Todd Boehly. The Chicago-born Charone moved to London in 1974 and now runs her own PR agency, MBC, representing Kasabian, Foo Fighters, Depeche Mode and Lewis Capaldi to name but four. Prior to this she was a critically acclaimed music journalist writing for NME , Rolling Stone and Sounds magazine.
