Mishina and Galliamov end Russian pairs’ gold-medal drought at debut senior worlds

· March 25, 2021 ·

Anastasia Mishina and Aleksandr Galliamov did on Thursday what no Russian pairs’ team had been able to do in the previous eight years – win a world title – and they did so in their senior world championships debut. In doing so, they became the youngest pairs’ world champions since the legendary Russians Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergey Grinkov , who won four titles from 1986-90 while Gordeeva was a teenager. FIGURE SKATING WORLDS: Results | TV, Stream Schedule With a total score of 227.59, the Russians outperformed two-time world champions Sui Wenjing and Han Cong of China (225.71). The most decorated active pairs’ team, Sui and Han now have five world medals after claiming gold in 2017 and 2019, and silver in 2015 and 2016. IPL 2021: MI vs SRH: Kieron Pollard: It’s good we won after a scrap, our confidence is up

· April 18, 2021 ·

It was not the familiar Pollard blitz of the death overs. The sluggish nature of the Chepauk pitch forced him to curb his big-hitting tendencies and there was a slice of fortune for him too. Vijay Shankar dropped Pollard off Khaleel Ahmed when the Trinidadian was on 18, and Pollard made Hyderabad pay for that error. After 19.4 overs, Mumbai score read 138 for 5 but Pollard hammered Bhuvneshwar Kumar for two sixes off the fifth and sixth ball of the 20th over to take his team to 150. Pollard remained not out on 35 off 22 balls. In the end calculations that knock made a huge difference. Pollard also bowled two parsimonious overs for just 10 overs that eased pressure on Mumbai's main bowlers in the middle overs, also helping MI to compensate for the expensiveness of Adam Milne and Krunal Pandya. But Pollard said his job is to support the frontline bowlers. "When it's coming out nicely you want to bowl another over, but what the team needs at the moment is you... but we need the main … [Read more...] about IPL 2021: MI vs SRH: Kieron Pollard: It’s good we won after a scrap, our confidence is up

· April 3, 2021 ·

Lutalo Muhammad looks forward to the Olympics this summer with infectious confidence that he will again make the British Taekwondo team and complete the set of Olympic medals. He won bronze at London 2012 and silver in Rio but that silver is tinged in heartbreak, life lessons and online trolling. Having received death threats for just being picked for the London Games, Rio brought him a whole new world of pain. He was winning the final until the last second, when a head kick from his opponent changed his certain gold to silver in a heartbeat. Olympic Games may yet be cancelled due COVID-19, says senior Japanese ruling party official

· April 14, 2021 ·

A senior Japanese ruling party official said cancelling this year's Olympics in Tokyo remains an option if the coronavirus crisis becomes too dire, as a fourth wave of infections surges less than 100 days from the planned start of the Games. "If it seems impossible to do it any more, then we have to stop, decisively," Toshihiro Nikai, secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party, said in comments to broadcaster TBS . Cancellation is "of course" an option, Nikai said. "If the Olympics were to spread infection, then what are the Olympics for?" he added.
