As the Edgbaston Test came to an end, giving England a fine win that gave them a 2-2 verdict in the five-Test series, one was left wondering what the result would have been, had India played the final Test of the series last year along with the rest, when they had the momentum. But other things take precedence in Indian cricket, one assumes. Nevertheless, even when the side went into the Edgbaston Test, there seemed to be a little bit of an assumption that all they needed to do was to appear, and things would just happen. Couldn’t have been more wrong, as the Indian team brutally got to know. India lost the Test, or began the process of losing, on Day 3 afternoon, when, in spite of a definite edge in proceedings, the batters just could not translate that into anything close to a challenge. It can’t be that the Indian think tank was not aware of the English batters’ ability to run down scores they made it clear time and again against New Zealand so the need to score really … [Read more...] about England vs India, Edgbaston Test: India Thought They Would Appear And Things Would Just Happen

‘Bazball’ scales new heights as fearsome England make history with record run chase against India
Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player Highlights from day five of the fifth Test at Edgbaston as England clinched an astonishing seven-wicket win over India Highlights from day five of the fifth Test at Edgbaston as England clinched an astonishing seven-wicket win over India This was supposed to be the chase that proved too tough. Knocking off 277, 299 and 296 in successive matches against New Zealand was one thing but an England-record 378? Against India? Against Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja? Surely logic would trump 'Bazball' this time? "Even the most cynical of curmudgeons will feel evangelical about 'Bazball' if England pull this off," said Sky Sports Cricket's Mark Butcher at lunch on day four at Edgbaston with India already 361 runs to this good. "This bowling attack is a level above the New Zealand one England decimated." England ratings: Full marks for relentless run-scorer Jonny … [Read more...] about ‘Bazball’ scales new heights as fearsome England make history with record run chase against India
Ranking all 32 NFL rosters ahead of 2022 training camp: Bills, Buccaneers, Chargers crack top five
USA Today Training camp is just around the corner in the NFL, and then comes the 2022 season. Plenty of teams have been busy this offseason, spending big to upgrade their lineups. Others have been more focused on rebuilding, tearing things down with the hopes of a brighter future. But which clubs boast the best all-around talent entering the hottest days of summer? Let's rank all 32 teams strictly according to their rosters going into camp, with full knowledge that the remainder of the offseason, the preseason and particularly the real games this fall will come to determine the true pecking order: 32. Falcons Arthur Smith is essentially starting from scratch for a second straight season, and this time, he doesn't have Matt Ryan's veteran savviness to at least mask the offense's thin weaponry. Kyle Pitts and Drake London could form a solid big-boy duo at pass catcher, but there's still a general lack of explosiveness here. Regardless of whether it's Marcus Mariota … [Read more...] about Ranking all 32 NFL rosters ahead of 2022 training camp: Bills, Buccaneers, Chargers crack top five
College football realignment: USC, UCLA bolting for Big Ten ‘not surprising,’ analyst says
With USC and UCLA going to the Big Ten by 2024, some have questioned if this could actually be a bad move for college football. FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd said it was a no-brainer and "not surprising" for both schools to make this kind of decision. As the sport rapidly changes, the Big Ten suddenly got a lot flashier with the addition of those two brands. Cowherd explained why the Trojans and Bruins ultimately make out well in a new conference on The Herd . “I think it surprised a lot of people that USC and UCLA joined the Big Ten,” Cowherd said. “I was not surprised USC joined the Big Ten. I was surprised UCLA went for it. USC has been unhappy for years. The Pac-12 does not create the revenue they need. When they got Lincoln Riley , they sold him on big things are happening. USC has been unhappy for years. They've considered selling their games to a network so they almost have an independent TV deal. They've thought about going independent. I've talked to their athletic … [Read more...] about College football realignment: USC, UCLA bolting for Big Ten ‘not surprising,’ analyst says
Barcelona Q&A: Patient Xavi still waiting to loosen financial straitjacket in summer of transfer poker
At the heart of the Eixample district of Barcelona, a brisk 40-minute walk from La Rambla down Carrer de Mallorca, the towers of Gaudi's most famous work pierce the clear blue skyline gradually rising into the heavens. This giant, unfinished minor basilica has been under construction since 1882. After 144 years, Spain's Sagrada Familia was finally slated for completion in 2026, the 100th anniversary of the original architect's death. Gaudi said of his masterpiece, "my client is not in a hurry", with the project less than 25 per cent complete by the time of his passing. In the years since, nine architects have taken on the project only to eventually walk away due to its myriad obstacles. The trials and tribulations of Gaudi's focal point mean Catalans are used to being patient. They have known for some time how the devil is in the detail. Some six kilometres south-west down Avinguda Diagonal at the Nou Camp, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez's own reconstruction has hit a … [Read more...] about Barcelona Q&A: Patient Xavi still waiting to loosen financial straitjacket in summer of transfer poker
Conference realignment: USC, UCLA could stifle attempts by Oregon, Washington to join Big Ten, per report
USC and UCLA bolted for the Big Ten, leaving the Pac-12 with many questions. Oregon and Washington could be two teams in limbo, since those are two schools reportedly not in the top four of a wishlist for the Big 12, in a potential poaching . ESPN’s Pete Thamel recently reported why Oregon and Washington could ultimately be rejected by the Big Ten as well, and that may have some to do with USC and UCLA’s wishes as institutions. "Any cries for Oregon and Washington in the Big Ten should be tempered by the reality that if USC and UCLA wanted them there in the first place, they'd probably be there,” Thamel wrote for ESPN. “Those schools appear to value owning Los Angeles and the rich recruiting market much more. They have a monopoly on the West Coast. Why invite in your top competition?" The Big Ten Conference last expanded in 2014 with the additions of Maryland and Rutgers, leading to East and West divisions. The conference also welcomed Nebraska in 2011. What a potential … [Read more...] about Conference realignment: USC, UCLA could stifle attempts by Oregon, Washington to join Big Ten, per report
NBA offseason winners and losers: Knicks’ star search incomplete; Spurs eyeing top pick; Thunder keep building
Getty Images As the 2022 NBA free agency period dies down, all eyes turn to the deals yet to be completed. It's presumed that Kevin Durant is headed out of Brooklyn, which could also trade Kyrie Irving, for whom the Lakers are angling. For Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker, NIL is a family affair
Hendon Hooker needed a bit of help. To understand why, here’s what a typical morning can look like for Tennessee’s starting quarterback: A 5 a.m. wakeup followed by a throwing session, film breakdown, a meeting with coaches, lifting with his teammates, an appearance and then often 30 minutes to sign things. By the time all that is complete, it’s 11 a.m. and he has a full day of classes ahead of him. With all of that and more occurring in the name, image and likeness era, Hooker turned to a natural source to ease his workload – family. His older sister, Nile, always assisted Hendon growing up. With dreams of being an on-camera reporter, she used to do media training with Hendon to ready him for the demands of being a high-profile recruit. As a social media assistant for the Atlanta Hawks, Nile tried to boost Hendon’s social media presence when he was the starting quarterback at Virginia Tech. So, when it became official college players could benefit from name, image and likeness … [Read more...] about For Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker, NIL is a family affair
