ANDY MURRAY has plenty to keep him busy when he stops playing tennis. Not least his two young daughters, Sophia and Eadie, and life with them and wife Kim. But high achievers in any field who “retire” tend to find it hard to put their feet up for long. The same competitiveness and drive to be the best he could be which made Murray Britain’s greatest tennis player, and one of its greatest ever athletes, will need new channels in which to express themselves. The most obvious is passing on his love and knowledge of the sport he graced to future players. Murray already has his 77 Sports Management company, with up-and-coming British tennis stars Katie Swan and Aidan McHugh on its books, as well as promising athletes from other sports. 77 was named after the 77-year drought of British men’s singles champions at Wimbledon which Murray ended on that unforgettable day of July 7, 2013. Former world No1 Murray now wants to play on until this summer's Wimbledon, but knows the Australian Open could be his last hurrah. But today, a much-happier looking Muzza posted a pic of him getting a big hug from his mum, calling it the "best way" to get over a bad day. Murray captioned the Instagram post: "Best way to feel better after a tough day is a big cuddle from your mum. "Genuinely been very touched by all of the messages and support from everybody today... Andy Murray broke down in tears on Friday as he conceded that a long-term injury may force him to retire imminently. Britain’s most successful tennis male player since the Second World War told a news conference in Melbourne that next week’s Australian Open may be his last tournament. The three-times Grand Slam winner and double Olympic champion said he had initially planned to stop playing after this year’s Wimbledon championships. But now he wasn’t sure he could play through the pain for several more months. Murray had surgery a year ago on his right hip, which had troubled him for years. A comeback last June did not last and despite a huge effort to get fit, he was forced to cut his season short. The layoff saw his ranking plunge and the 31-year-old is due to play next Monday’s first round match as the world number 230 against the No22 seed, Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut. Andy Murray is one of Britain’s greatest ever sportsmen. He has … [Read more...] about Andy Murray breaks down over retirement fears
