How Chelsea’s new spin on long-term contracts aligns with Todd Boehly’s approach as Dodgers minority owner
Getty Images The year is 2029. Graham Potter's vibrant Chelsea side are once more sweeping all ahead of them, swashbuckling in attack but with the defensive instincts that only come through years together on the training ground. Yet another Champions League is seemingly within reach for this side, who, for what feels like a generation, have grown together into a footballing force. That, perhaps, is the end vision underpinning Chelsea's radical new approach to the management of contracts at Stamford Bridge. In an era of dwindling patience and fast fixes, the Todd Boehly-led consortium that took control last summer are building a squad for the long term, whether they like it or not. Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. victim of additional racist abuse from Atletico Madrid fans ahead of derby
Getty Images Atletico Madrid supporters have targeted Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior with racial abuse ahead of Thursday's Copa del Rey meeting between the two rivals. A banner reading "Madrid hates Real" was unfurled near Ciudad Deportiva and the inciteful text was accompanied by a large doll being hung by its neck. The figure was wearing the white kit of Real and had Vinicius Junior's name and number on the back. The star attacker has a history of being the victim of racial abuse during his time in Spain. The Brazilian international was targeted by Atleti supporters when the two teams met earlier this season . The text on the banner, hanging above the doll, is one of the slogans used by a known group of Atleti ultras that has displayed similar banners over the years. Atletico issued an official statement condemning the behavior, saying " these are repugnant and inadmissible acts that shame society ." "The rivalry between the two clubs is the greatest, but so is … [Read more...] about Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. victim of additional racist abuse from Atletico Madrid fans ahead of derby

2023 NFL playoffs: Breaking down 49ers-Eagles trench matchup for the ages ahead of NFC Championship game
Getty Images The NFC Championship game between the 49ers and Eagles will be an old-school slugfest with a new-school twist. The new school would be the 49ers' position-less football and Kyle Shanahan's motion offense, and the Eagles' RPO attack led by MVP finalist Jalen Hurts . Sure, there are superstar playmakers all over the field, but make no mistake, this game will still be one for the football purists, fought and won in the trenches. "I expect it to be a battle all the way through," 49ers linebacker Fred Warner told reporters on Wednesday . "Both the Cowboys and Eagles are physical and talented teams who are really fast and have a lot of talent. Just like it was a battle this past week [against Dallas], I'm expecting that, if not more, this week, them being in their home stadium, home crowd behind them. They're going to be juiced up, ready to go." Both teams come in highly rated up front. Why Jordan Poole’s shot that led to Stephen Curry’s ejection in Warriors-Grizzlies wasn’t that bad
Getty Images Jordan Poole had himself an eventful 80 seconds to close the Warriors ' wild win over Memphis on Wednesday night. After attempting a somewhat ill-advised 3-pointer that irked Stephen Curry to the point the Warriors star hurled his mouthpiece into the stands, which led to his being ejected, Poole redeemed himself by producing the game-winning layup off a baseline out-of-bounds play as Golden State escaped with a 122-120 victory. Three Grizzlies followed Klay Thompson as he curled around to the strong-side corner, another example of the Splash Brothers' gravity creating backdoor opportunities for teammates, and Poole made a great cut with Ziaire Williams positioned on his top side and the rim vacated. But what I want to talk about more is this supposed awful shot that … [Read more...] about Why Jordan Poole’s shot that led to Stephen Curry’s ejection in Warriors-Grizzlies wasn’t that bad
2023 NFC Championship: Eagles vs. 49ers position-by-position advantages, where each team has the edge
USATSI For much of the 2022 NFL season, the Eagles and 49ers have stood tall as the apparent class of the NFC. Philadelphia's 13-1 start paved a relatively smooth path to the No. 1 seed. And San Francisco has now won 12 straight, with rookie quarterback Brock Purdy unbeaten in his first seven starts replacing an injured Jimmy Garoppolo . Set to square off in Sunday's NFC Championship Game, these contenders have also been among the conference elite for a while. Philly is making its seventh NFC title bid since 2001, racking up more conference championship appearances than all but the Patriots during that stretch. The 49ers, meanwhile, are in the NFC Championship Game for the third time in four seasons. We know both teams are talented. But which side is best suited to move on? Here's a position-by-position breakdown of where the Eagles and 49ers have the edge: QB Eagles: Jalen Hurts 49ers: Brock Purdy Jalen Hurts PHI • QB • #1 CMP% 66.5 … [Read more...] about 2023 NFC Championship: Eagles vs. 49ers position-by-position advantages, where each team has the edge
