0 Have your say Only 12 minutes away from Kobe in the hallowed bullet train and I was in Osaka, Japan’s third-biggest city, catching up with a couple of fellow journalists who were billeted there for Scotland’s two-week stay in Japan’s Hyogo region I immediately sensed Osaka was the Glasgow to Kobe’s Edinburgh. Bright, brassy, brash and a bit rough around the edges in relative Japanese terms. We even glossed over the starter option of “crab innards salad”. As ever, the place was what Fry & Laurie in the old Alliance & Leicester ads would call “compact and bijou” … [Read more...] about Postcard from Osaka: Why is Twiggy big in Japan?

By Press Association Ajax stunned Juventus to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League with a 2-1 comeback win in Turin. Cristiano Ronaldo gave Juventus the lead after 28 minutes with a record 126th goal in the competition, his ninth in seven meetings against Ajax. But goals from Donny Van De Beek and Matthijs De Ligt gave Ajax a thoroughly deserved 3-2 aggregate success. Ajax will meet Manchester City or Tottenham in their first Champions League semi-final for 22 years and many will consider them underdogs again. But after eliminating Real Madrid, champions for the previous three seasons, and now Juventus, Erik Ten Hag's exciting young side should not be underestimated. In what was to prove a hugely entertaining contest, both sides were slow to start. Industry analysts continue to question his ability to lead an automaker. Employees and suppliers seek clarity on his global restructuring and vision for the company. Hackett's push to jettison … [Read more...] about Hackett’s Ford coming into focus
Chris Odette — father of Chrishia Odette — spoke to a crowd at a Fund the Wall protest in front of the White House on Saturday morning in Washington, DC. He and other speakers called for the construction of a border wall to protect American citizens. Partial transcript below:September 12, 2014 … I let my 13-year-old daughter Chrishia spend the night at a friend’s house. The friend’s mom allowed her daughter and my daughter to walk to the grocery store to buy some soda pop. On the way, my daughter and her crossed the street at a non-crosswalk and dropped her cellphone. She ran back on the road to grab her cellphone. The side of the traffic that she was on was able to stop. They slammed on the brakes and stopped about 20 feet short of her. The opposite side of the road was a man driving a truck, a white 2004 Nissan Titan. He’d been in the country for 15 years illegally. He had no license. The man who killed my daughter had two warrants. One was for … [Read more...] about Angel Father: ‘I Am Living Proof of What Permanent Separation Is’
