The NFL’s pass-interference rule is always enforced with varying rigor. Some days, defensive backs have a bit more latitude than others to hit receivers before the ball arrives. Maybe one week, a slight shove a half-second before the ball arrives is fine, and the next week, the same shove gets called. It happens in a high-speed, high-contact sport. But this is hilarious. I need to compose myself after laughing for two minutes at this premature body slam by the Rams’ Nickell Robey-Coleman not getting flagged: Tommylee Lewis was running a little wheel route on third-and-10 from the Rams’ 13-yard line, with the score tied at 20 in the final two minutes of the NFC Championship. He was about to catch it just shy of the first-down marker when Robey-Coleman annihilated him. There’s a decent bit to the PI rule, but the biggest thrust of it is that “contact by a player who is not playing the ball that restricts the opponent’s opportunity to make the … [Read more...] about This PI non-call in Rams-Saints is one of the wildest things ever

The last few years in Philadelphia have been a doozy. We've had a Super Bowl victory, a papal visit, the Democratic National Convention, an Amtrak derailment, flooding streets and runaway peacocks, to name a couple of notable events. This city is best known for its history, its passion, its blunt manner, its parks, its universities and its cuisine. What it needs is a little more recognition for its absurdity. Where else do students provide a glossary of slang terms to incoming teachers? Where do solar trash cans get taken over by invasive car ads and then get blown up—or turned into public art? Who snatches birds in the middle of a park, and who films it? Jason Foster @ByJasonFoster Updated at 8:29 a.m. ET Updated at 8:29 a.m. ET Yeah, Rick Camp hit a homer and Keith Hernandez hit for the cycle. But a lot of other interesting things happened in the epic Mets-Braves game on July 4 (and 5), 1985. As we mark the 33rd anniversary of that soggy Georgia night that ended with fireworks at 4 a.m., here are 19 things you might not remember about those 19 innings that went down among the wackiest in major league history: MORE: Classic photos of Hank Aaron 19. The game probably should’ve never been played, as 2 hours, 5 minutes of rain delays left the outfield a virtual swamp. The field at Fulton County Stadium was notoriously bad anyway, and drainage systems weren’t great back in the ‘80s. Standing water brought batted balls to a halt, and when outfielders chased after them, it produced mini-explosions of water. 18.
