“Pakistan Has Always Given India Tough Time,” Ex Star On Teams’ World Cup Chances | Cricket News

January 31, 2023 by sports.ndtv.com Leave a Comment

The ODI World Cup, to be played later this year in India, will be an acid test for the Rohit Sharma -led Indian cricket team. The side has not won an ICC title since 2013 and at home it will ve primed to lift the title. On the other hand, Pakistan performance will also be closely watched. The Babar Azam -led side has done consistently well in the last two editions of the T20 World Cup. However, ODIs are a different ball game but former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed feels that the team is up for the challenge. "Pakistan has always given India a tough time. When the Pakistan team goes to India for the World Cup, it will not face any problem in playing on the pitches there," Javed was quoted as saying by Geo.tv . Javed felt that Pakistan have a better bowling line-up than India. "Although recently India scored a lot of runs against New Zealand in the ODI series. But the bowling of Pakistan is not the bowling of New Zealand, so the Indian batsmen scored four hundred runs," he … [Read more...] about “Pakistan Has Always Given India Tough Time,” Ex Star On Teams’ World Cup Chances | Cricket News

South Africa eye cleansweep on path to World Cup

ENGLAND TOUR OF SOUTH AFRICA, 2023 by Telford Vice • Published on Share Tweet South Africa have won both the games so far. © AFP If you didn't know better you'd have thought the home side were in dead-rubber mode at their training session in Kimberley on Tuesday (January 31). The only South Africa batters who took to the nets were Janneman Malan and Reeza Hendricks. Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi bowled not a ball between them. Except that the South Africans need all the World Cup Super League points they can lay their hands on to uncomplicate their passage to the tournament in India in October and November. Another win over England, who have gone down in the first two matches of the series, will push them into the top eight who will qualify directly. Two more victories over the Netherlands in the coming weeks would guarantee Temba Bavuma's team that status. Anything less and a qualifier could loom in Zimbabwe … [Read more...] about South Africa eye cleansweep on path to World Cup

India all-rounder Deepti Sharma has climbed to second spot and has the top position -- currently occupied by England's Sophie Ecclestone -- in her sights in the latest ICC T20I bowling rankings announced on Tuesday. The 25-year-old off-spinner, who is leading the wicket-taker's list in the ongoing Women's T20I Tri-series in South Africa with nine scalps, has reduced the England left-arm spinner's lead to just 26 rating points. Deepti (737 points) moved up one spot, while South African left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba, who has picked four wickets in the Tri-series, also climbed a spot to occupy the third place with 732 points. If the duo continue their form, they could take Sophie's top spot ahead of the Women's T20 World Cup, scheduled in South Africa from February 10. India and South Africa will square off in the T20I Tri-series final in East London on Thursday. India left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad also improved her rank four places and is currently 14th on the … [Read more...] about Deepti Sharma Climbs To Second Spot, Closes In On Sophie Ecclestone As Top T20I Bowler | Cricket News

“He Should Request Team Management To…”: Former Selector’s Advice To Yuzvendra Chahal | Cricket News

February 1, 2023 by sports.ndtv.com Leave a Comment

India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal became India's leading wicket-taker during the second T20I against New Zealand on Sunday. Chahal scalped one wicket in the match and took his total tally to 91 and surpassed Bhuvneshwar Kumar with 90 wickets. However, the performance of the veteran spinner has not been up to the mark for quite some time. Chahal has scalped only four wickets in three T20Is he played this year. Apart from this, he could only achieve three dismissals in three ODIs. As the Rohit Sharma -led side is gearing up for the upcoming ODI World Cup, former India selector Sunil Joshi stated that the 32-year-old spinner should play domestic cricket to regain his form. “Over a period any bowler will go through that phase. Probably Chahal is in that phase. Someone like Chahal, who is not able to get game time in the middle, probably he should request the team management to go and play domestic cricket. Match time is very important for him to get back into form. That should be … [Read more...] about “He Should Request Team Management To…”: Former Selector’s Advice To Yuzvendra Chahal | Cricket News
