The Golden State Warriors blew a 3-1 lead in the 2016 NBA Finals the Cleveland Cavaliers. We all now that. It’s part of NBA history. Many trace that breakdown to the Game 5 suspension of Draymond Green , who hit LeBron James in the crotch after the Cavaliers star stepped over him in the fourth quarter of Game 4 . In an edition of ESPN’s E:60 documentary program, Green has admitted that his actions likely cost the Warriors their title last season. He’s also not backing down from his actions, saying he would do the same again as LeBron’s step over was disrespectful. Via Detroit Free Press : “One of the most brutal things I’ve ever had to go through in my life,” Green said as part of an E:60 special that will air at 9 a.m. Sunday on ESPN. “If I played, we win of course. So I do feel it’s my fault we lost. … Absolutely my fault. But I don’t feel wrong for what I did at all.” … “He stepped over me. And I had a natural reaction,” Green said. “I mean, you don’t step over … [Read more...] about Draymond Green says his suspension cost Warriors 2016 NBA Finals: “It’s my fault we lost”

Remembering a Forgotten Protest: Vince Matthews, Wayne Collett and the 1972 Munich Olympics
They are the lost souls of protest, nearly five decades on from an act that was both misunderstood and reviled in its own time and largely forgotten or ignored since, even as it becomes more historically relevant by the day. They were two young Black American athletes – Vince Matthews from New York City and Wayne Collett from Los Angeles, more alike than the distance between their homes, yet different in ways that had defined their pasts, and would shape their futures. They were both fast, both strong. And fearless. Most of all, fearless. They ran the 400 meters, after all, and the track and field event they call the quarter (-mile) is not for the meek. The race of their lives was the 1972 Olympic 400 meter final in Munich, Germany ( West Germany, at the time). At 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, eight runners pushed away from starting blocks and staggered halfway around the first turn of the rust-colored, all-weather track. Matthews was in lane two, wearing high white socks; … [Read more...] about Remembering a Forgotten Protest: Vince Matthews, Wayne Collett and the 1972 Munich Olympics

India vs England, 3rd Test: Axar Patel’s six-for, Ashwin spin out visitors for 112 at Motera Stadium
Axar, playing in just his second Test, scalped six wickets while Ashwin returned with three wickets as the visitors were bowled out in just 48.4 overs. This was Axar's second five-wicket haul in a row as he had scalped five in the second innings of the second Test as well. Resuming the second session at 81/4, England got off to the worst possible start as both Ben Stokes (6) and Ollie Pope (1) were sent back to the pavilion. Stokes was trapped plumb in front of the wickets and as a result, Axar was rewarded with his third wicket. Ashwin on the other hand sent Pope packing for just 1. If the former England players were critical of the Chepauk wicket, the lack of application from the English batsmen in the first innings of the third Test can have no excuses. Playing down the wrong line was the crux of the story and just like the top-order batsmen, Jofra Archer (11) too tried to cut a straight delivery and was clean bowled by Axar as the visitors were reduced to 93/7. This was … [Read more...] about India vs England, 3rd Test: Axar Patel’s six-for, Ashwin spin out visitors for 112 at Motera Stadium
