President Donald Trump questioned Nike’s decision to feature failed former quarterback Colin Kaepernick in a commercial. “What was Nike thinking?” Trump wrote on Twitter Friday:Trump expanded his criticism of the athletic company in an interview with Fox & Friends host Pete Hegseth. “I don’t like what Nike did. I don’t think it was appropriate what they did,” he said. “I honor the flag. I honor our national anthem, and most of the people in our country feel the same way.” Nike’s favorability numbers fell 34 percent after its ad was announced for the opening broadcast of the NFL regular season. Trump said he did not understand why the NFL was not enforcing its rule that athletes must stand for the national anthem, and he criticized the proposed compromise to allow NFL athletes to stay in the locker room during the anthem. “I think that’s worse than kneeling, in a certain way. … That shows that you just … [Read more...] about Donald Trump on Colin Kaepernick Ad: ‘What Was Nike Thinking?’

Getty Images The Nike ad featuring Colin Kaepernick aired during Thursday night’s game between the Falcons and Eagles and it again drew a response from President Trump. The President took to Twitter on Friday morning to ask “what was Nike thinking?” The company’s decision to unveil an ad featuring Kaepernick has been a frequent target for Trump this week. He also slammed the company during a rally in Montana on Thursday night and squeezed in some time to hammer the NFL. He said in an interview with FOX News that he will win a “culture war” with the league over the national anthem while saying that it is his “understanding” that players are contractually required to stand for the national anthem. That’s not the case. The league had installed a policy requiring players on the field to stand or stay in the locker room with provisions to fine teams if players did not abide. BUENA VISTA • Just outside city limits, on a tree-lined field of grass bordering Cottonwood Creek and yielding stunning views of the Collegiate Peaks, country music star Dierks Bentley gazed upward.“Those trees turn more yellow as the day goes on,” he said, nodding toward a patch of aspens more golden than the rest on one peak.Dressed in black board shorts, a black T-shirt from local gear shop the Trailhead, sandals and a black Seven Peaks ball cap, Bentley looked much like a member of the busy crew feverishly setting up the Seven Peaks Music Festival site Thursday afternoon. Cubs taking a narrow view of upcoming series against Brewers, Cardinals What was Maddon thinking when he pinch hit for Hendricks? An important decision faced Joe Maddon in the fifth inning of the Cubs’ 7-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field: Leave Kyle Hendricks in to hit, or pull him for a pinch hitter? The situation was far more complicated than that description would present, though. The Cubs were losing 1-0 but hadn’t looked threatening against Pirates starter Ivan Nova, who had scattered three singles and a walk to that point. Addison Russell led off the fifth with a single, and Chris Gimenez reached on an error when shortstop Jordy Mercer bobbled a sure-fire double play ball. Meanwhile, Hendricks had thrown 86 pitches and admitted after the game he was struggling to be consistent with his mechanics. The Pirates had their Nos. 2-4 … [Read more...] about What was Joe Maddon thinking when he pinch hit for Kyle Hendricks? ‘You gotta look at the whole thing’

He returned with a set of songs that he hopes will take his fans higher in his live shows. (May 29) Media: Associated Press NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — For his new album "The Mountain," Dierks Bentley stepped away from the frenzied pace of Nashville and took a group of songwriters to Telluride, Colorado. Among the mountains, he zeroed in on the theme of nature as an inspiration in his life. The Arizona-born singer grew up hiking in mountains as a child and said that the title track is an analogy for his realization that the journey along each step, not reaching the peak, is the reward. The album, which comes out on June 8, mixes his passion for bluegrass instruments like the banjo and the mandolin, but also delivering arena-sized anthems. He says while … [Read more...] about Dierks Bentley wants to take fans higher on ‘The Mountain’
