The NBA season is in full swing, and we will be here each weekday with the NBC Sports daily roundup Three Things to Know — everything you might have missed in the Association, every key moment from the night before in one place. 1) One one-year anniversary of taking over, Leon Rose has Knicks thriving If the playoffs started today, the four-seed New York Knicks would host a series at Madison Square Garden. If you had made that statement one year ago today — the day Leon Rose took over as Knicks president of basketball operations — you would have been quickly reminded that New York has not legalized that stuff yet. England scored 112 and 81 in the two innings after opting to bat and they fell to the guile of Indian spinners, led by Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel, who took 19 England wickets among them, to lose the first Test by 10 wickets inside two days. "Look, it is India, it is Asia. We expect to get spinning surfaces, may be we did not expect to take spin as early as it did and hence the line-up we picked. It was a tough pitch to play on and we got on the wrong side of it," Patel said in a virtual media conference. "In the first innings when we won the toss, 112 was not going to be enough on any surface -- spinning, flat or seaming. We were excited when we bowled India out for 140-odd. But again it did not click in second innings. "If we had scored 200 or 230 in the first innings, the game could have been different." Patel said England expect the fourth and final Test pitch, starting here on Thursday, to also be a spinning track but said the visitors are eager to "punch back" from … [Read more...] about India vs England: Motera pitch was tough to play, 200 plus in first innings could have given different result:
Getty Images The 2021 quarterback class is coming into focus. Only one of them has drawn a comparison to the quarterback who started 2021 with his seventh Super Bowl win. Via Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, Dean of Draftniks Mel Kiper compares Alabama quarterback Mac Jones to Tom Brady . Sort of. “I hate to say, but he kind of has a little bit of Brady in him ,” Kiper said, via Reiss. “I’m not saying he’s ever going to be Tom Brady. He wouldn’t be close, probably. But he has that competitiveness, and he’s so smart — he picked that offense up [at the Senior Bowl] like it was nothing. Other quarterbacks were struggling with the verbiage and — ‘boom!’ — he was in and out of the huddle quicker than anybody I’ve ever seen. “Then he sees the field. He’s tremendously accurate to all levels. He doesn’t have the ‘wow’ arm, like Brady didn’t either coming into the league. And like Brady, he’s not real mobile, not a runner. But biding time, slipping and sliding, he did it in the … [Read more...] about Mel Kiper sees some Tom Brady in Mac Jones
At 15-17, the Chicago Bulls are fighting for position in one of the East’s play-in games — and they are just a game out of being the sixth seed or higher and avoiding the play-in all together. Playoff experience would be another step forward for young Bulls such as Zach LaVine , Cody White, and Wendell Carter Jr. There are also a few teams around the league eyeing Chicago players — particularly veteran big man Thaddeus Young — as a potential trade target. It leads to a question for the new Chicago front office: Would it be willing to trade away Young and hurt the team a little now to help build a better roster for the future? Or is it better to hang on to Young and chase the playoffs? The Bulls brain trust will meet in the coming weeks and discuss it, reports Joe Cowley at the Chicago Sun-Times . [Bulls coach Billy] Donovan knows the heads of the Bulls’ family will be meeting after the All-Star break and before the March 25 trade deadline. He even has a generic date … [Read more...] about With front office to meet soon, will Bulls be deadline sellers with Thaddeus Young?

We will delve into one almost every day between now and the start of the season. Today: Will Lakers management be patient while rebuilding with youth? As he was doing interviews before being inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame last weekend , former Laker and current TNT analyst Shaquille O’Neal summed up what many people believe about the post-Kobe Lakers this season: “They’re definitely going to be exciting, but I don’t see them being a contender for a while. I mean, they’ve still got to go up against Golden State in the West, they’ve got to go up against OKC, still got to go up against Cleveland, the Rockets. So they have a long way to go to be a contender.Every now and then they’ll make some noise and get the people in the Staples Center excited.” … [Read more...] about 51 Questions: Will Lakers management be patient while rebuilding with youth?
